Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Mrs. Louis Casaretto appeared before the Council in behalf of her husband. She <br />stated -she had heard there was objection to the .fact that an ice box was placed <br />on the lot next to their place of business. She said application had been <br />made for a priority to construct a building to shelter the box and that as <br />soon as it was obtained, the ice box would be covered. There are two ice <br />boxes, one is attached to the place of business and a permit was obtained to <br />, <br />place it there. <br />Mayor Hilton advised Mrs. Casaretto that no objections had been presented to <br />the Council and after some disucssion as to the disposition of the matter, <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the City <br />Manager be instructed to report at the next meeting in.regard to the legality o° <br />the. ice box being in its present position and the matter placed on the agenda. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />City Manager Mead reported that he had advised Mr. Pierre Casurang after the last <br />council meeting that the council had requested him to advise Mr. Casurang <br />that his property at Five Points must be cleaned by this meeting. He said <br />that Mrs. Casurang had called at his office and told him they were leaving on <br />a vacation and that nothing would be done by him by this meeting. Councilman <br />Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the building be cleared <br />from the property and the owner be billed for the cost._ Motion passed <br />'unanimously. <br />City Manar'er Mead reported that he had written I,2r. J. J. Jordan of the Southern Pacifi; <br />Company in regard to the crossing at Chestnut Street and Bayshore Highway being <br />without a flagman at all times. He had received a reply to his letter in which <br />Mr. Jqrdan stated that under the existing circumstances the company would not be <br />justified in placing a flagman there. City Manager Mead said he believed Mr. <br />Jordan had misunderstood his request inasmuch as it was not desired to have a <br />flagman there on regular duty but merely someone to flag the traffic as trains <br />were crossing the intersection, and said he would be glad to talke the matter up <br />with Mr. Jordan again. <br />Councilman Granter offered the opinion that a letter should be addressed to <br />the State HiE'hl;Ray Department advising them of the condition at'this crossing and <br />so moved. It was decided, however, that City Manager Head would write Mr. Jordan <br />again before contacting the Highway Department.` There was no second to Council- <br />man Granser ' s motion. <br />City Manager Mead reported he had also contacted Mr. Jordan in regard to <br />trains standing at the station and the signal sounding..
