J
it
F
that there mould be another used cQ.r lot on El Camino Real, Councilmen Armstrons
•end Granger being of that opinion. Councilman Anderson suggested that the pre-
sent location be abandoned and no new permit be granted at the old location.
Attorney Edmund Scott advised the Council that he was representing the man, i.4r.
W. A. Van Buren, who was going to make application for a used car lot at the
' old location. Mr. Van Buren advised the council that he did not wish to make
application until Bair. Cuddy's license had been transferred. Motion before the
council passed unanimously.
Communication was received from Harvey C. O'Dell, 2345 Middlefield Road, requesting
that dance permit be issued in his name at t1re place of business formerly
oper-ated under the name Canep a's. Cotuzcilman Armstrong asked City Attorney McCarthy
if the ordinance allowed the issuance of a dance permit where liquor was served. w
City Attorney McCarthyrepliedthat no dance permit was allowed in the same room.
i
where liquor was served and read excerpts from the ordinance which stated that
dancing had to be done in a separate enclosure from the place in which liquor was
sold. It was the consensus of the council that dancing should not be held in
such close proximity to the selling of liquor .and Councilman Armstrong moved than
the application for a dance permit be denied, seconded by Councilman Britschgi.
i
Councilman Anderson stated he was going to vote against the motion for the reaso:n
that if one dance permit was denied, all should be. Councilman McNulty concurred
in Councilman Anderson's opinion. On a roll call vote, the motion failed to
r
i;. carry with Councilmen Armstrong and Britschgi voting in the affirmative and
I
Councilmen Anderson, Fletcher, Granger, McNulty and Mayor Hilton voting in the
? negative.
' Councilman Fletcher moved that the necessary license be granted, under the
same conditions as the former permit was granted, seconded by Councilman McNulty„
Motion carried with Councilmen Armstrong, and Britschgi voting in the negative.
City Clerk Dodge read communication from the Peninsula Division of the Leagueodf
s
California Cities advising that thb next rdeeting of the League would be held
I
Thursday, September 21, at 6:45 P.T.T. at Kloss Hall; San°Mateo, and noted those
signifying their intention of being present.
City Clerk Dodge read communication from C. G. Uhlenberg in regard to the cost of
auditing books and accounts of the city monthly in the form of a continuous audit
and submitting monthly reports to the council, which information had been re-
quested of him by Councilmen Armstrong and Granger. The cost of this service,
including the annual report, would not exceed '$1500.00 annually.
. Councilman Granger moved that the matter be placed on the agenda of the
next meeting and that some thought be given to this plan as a subotitute to
hiring a treasurer. The present treasurer, if this proposed plan went into effect,
would remain as treasurer and divorce himself as auditor. The.public auditor
would act as city auditor. In his opinion, Coiincilman Granger believed the city
would derive the same result from this plan as it would if a treasurer were
appointed.
