u <br />�J <br />E <br />C <br />0 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />DECEMBER 41 1944 <br />5:00 P. M. <br />On roll call the following were present: Councilmen C. C. Armstrong, Carl Britschgi, <br />E. A. Fletcher, .Floyd D. Granger, George W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton, City <br />Clerk R. S. Dodge, Also present were: City Manager Robert W. Mead, City <br />Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Building .inspector L. M. Duncan, City Collector N. L. <br />Miramontes, Police Chief C. L. Collinjs, Fire Chief.PB. E. Ryan, Street Superin- <br />tendent H. L. Winter. Absent: Councilman Harold F. Anderson, Health Inspector <br />Emil Stein. <br />Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Armstrong. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Application was received from Court Madrone No. 155, F. of A., for benefit dances -,to <br />be held Saturdays, December 9th and .6th until .l:00 A. M* Councilman, Britschgi <br />moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that permit be granted. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann.for dances to be <br />held Wednesdays, December 6th and 13th until 12:0U midnight, fee having been <br />paid. Councilman McNulty moved, seconded Dy Councilman Britschgi, that permit <br />be granted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the San Carlos American Legi6n Auxiliary requesting <br />permission to conduct rummage sale in garage at Five Points on December 7th, <br />5th and 9th. Councilman Fletener moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, that <br />permit be granted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the Redwood City Lions Club requesting the attendance <br />of the Council at the dedication of the Honor Roll, Thursday, December 7th. <br />Mayor Hilton asked tnat as many of the councilmen as possible attend. <br />Communication was received from the Redwood City Traffic Study Commi'ttaeaerecommending <br />that a pedestrian crosswalk be painted across E1 Camino Real at* the southeasterl,r <br />line of Wellesley Avenue because of a bus,stop.at this intersection. Councilman <br />Armstrong moved that the recommendation of the -Traffic Study,Committee be approvad <br />and the necessary officials -be instructed to do the necessary work to carry out <br />the recommendation, seconded l?y Councilman Fletcher.. Under the.question, <br />Councilman Britschgi asked if this matter should.not be referred.to the State <br />Highway Division to wnien City Manager Mead replied that it would have to be. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from Lars 0. Anderson making application for a dance per- <br />mit at the Woodside Club, 765 Woodside Road, and attaching a list of neighbors <br />agreeable to the application being granted. Councilman Armstrong asked the City <br />Attorney for an opinion as to the restrictions of a dance permit in establish- <br />ments where liquor was. sold. City Attorney McCarthy explained that dancing must <br />be done in a separate room from where the liquor was sold and.read an excerpt <br />from the ordinance which stated that it is unlawful to permit or allow dancing <br />in a public establishment within, the same room or enclosure in_.which intoxica- <br />Y <br />
