F11 <br />11 <br />1' <br />a <br />C <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR 14EETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />FEBRUARY 1, 19+3 <br />5:00 P. 14. <br />Upon roll call, the fo llbtwing were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, C, A.Britsc <br />R .. <br />E. A. Fletcher, W. W. Hilton, Louis Jenkins, Jr., G. 11. McNulty, Mayor F. D. <br />Granger, and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were City Manager R. W. <br />Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, City Collector N. L. Miramontes, Chief <br />of Police C. L. Collins, Fire Chief M. E. Ryan, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, <br />and Acting City Engineer R. J. Clarke. <br />'Min`ites of the meeting of January 15th were approved on motion of Councilman Hilton, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />Communication of John M. Brand submitting his resignation as Chairman of Redwood <br />City Soar Savings Committee due to increased business conditions and on advice <br />of his Doctor, read and accepted with sincere regrets. On* motion of Council- <br />,,mari' Anderson, seconded by Councilman Hilton, Clerk was directed to write Mr. <br />Brand thanking him for his splendid work in handling Bond and War Stamp Drives <br />in Redwood City up to the present time. <br />Mayor Granger offered the name of Mr. Martin Flynn to succeed Mr. Brand as Chairman <br />of War Sajuings Committee. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by <br />Councilman Britschgi, council unanimously -endorsed Mayor'Granger's selection. <br />dommunication from Citizens Traffic Committee was read recommending that pedestrian <br />lane from Methodist Church -be angled across Brewster Street to terminate to the <br />left of the arterial stop sign near the ?sigh School entrance thus eliminating a <br />traffic hazard created by�confusion as to where vehicles should stop. On motion <br />of Councilman Jenkins, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, recommend8t�on of <br />Committee will be carried out. <br />City Manager Mead reported on matter of parking ambulance near Southern Pacific Depot, <br />stating that Mr. Caccamo, proprietor, will keep the ambulance parked near his <br />place of business until such time as garage, now out of repair, is again avail- <br />able. Mr. Mead reported further that Mr. Caccamo had signified his intention <br />of discontinuing the ambulance service due to falling off in revenue to the <br />point where service was operating at a loss.' Mr. Mead explained he had been in <br />touch with Dr. Gans, Director of County Health Service, in an effort to have <br />the County subsidize the service, however, Dr. Gans was of the opinion that the <br />money budgeted by the County could be "expended only for services rendered.. Mr. <br />Mead suggested that County Supervisors be contacted with the thought tha.t possi- <br />bly they would agree to subsidize the service rather than have this part of the <br />county go without ambulance service. After considerable discussion, Mr. Caccamo <br />agreed to carry on until a committee could be appointed to stuiy the matter and <br />attempt to vn rk out a solution. Personnel of the Committee will be announced <br />sho rtl y. <br />City Manager Mead reported on the matter of City Employees working on days off and <br />after hours in war industry stating that after discussion with heads of depart- <br />ments, it`was decided this would not be possible without breaking dawn the <br />
