Mr. Mead suggested the matter be carried over until such time as it may <br />become acute. <br />Mr. E. G. Stein, representing the County Health Department and in charge of Health • <br />Inspection for the City of RedwooiCity, appeared before the Council. Mayor <br />Granger discussed the question of raising poultry, etc., and was advised that . <br />Mr. Stein was now issuing permits, having issued 65 to date with 11 application; <br />pending.* '1,0*.' Stein disclosed that if upon inspection it was found applicant �I <br />had not complied with ordinance he was notified to correct the situation within <br />a short time after whic)l,if not corrected, he will appear and request the <br />Council to revoke permit. <br />Matter of slot machines was discussed at length and City Attorney McCarthy was in <br />strutted to report back .at the next meeting after determining when a slot machine <br />is al!gambling device" and when it is an "amusement" or "game of skill". Police <br />Chief Collins reported his department was not collecting license fees for the. <br />present quarter. <br />City t4anager Dead introduced a plan for consideration of the Council relative to <br />special water rates for Victory gardens based on the size of garden plot, mini- <br />mum to be 200 square feet and maximum 2000 square feet. Mr. Mead explained he <br />had determined from various sources among them a letter from County Agricultural. <br />Commissioner Max Leonard, that 2 cubic feet of water per square foot of garden <br />was ample.,for the growing season. Mr. Mead submitted to the Council a table <br />worked out to snow amounts of rebate consumers would beventitled to according to <br />the size of garden plot used and subject to consumer filing an affidavit claim <br />at the end of growing season or in October when paying September water bill. <br />Mr. Mead will mail to each Councilman a copy of his outline of the plan for <br />study and question will be discussed further at the next meeting. <br />City Manager Mead reported he had obtained a price of $26.50 on a 3..x 5 service flag. <br />An additional $13.00 would be required to cover set of .numerals indicating the <br />number of Redwood City men in the service. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson, Mr. Mead was directed to--purch•1se the flag <br />aryl, the :numerals. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty- resolution was adopt(;d <br />relating to the purchase of 2.1 acres of land adjoiijing the Port of Redwood - <br />City,Harbor Company. The Board of Port Commissioners has entered into an option; <br />contract to purchase in ten annual installments approximately 22.04 acres of (� <br />which the present deed is the first. i■i <br />On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman McNulty, resolution of accep- l� <br />tante of deed to property described as Lots ls, 19, 20, 212 22, and 23 in Block OR <br />l as designated on the map entitled 1114ap of Subdivision of Lot 16 of the I°looster <br />Whitton and Montgomery Subdivision of a Part of the Redwood City Farm, Redwood <br />City, San Mateo County, California", was adopted. <br />On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher) Ordinance changing <br />name of Montgomery Street to Winklebleck Street was introduced. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised the Traffic Committee was studying Traffic conditions �•} <br />at Grand Street, Duane and Broadway, and National Motor Bearing.
