The ordi- <br />nance fixing the tax rate, No. A1,Z7was unanimously adopted on motion of <br />I IVB <br />Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, and a roll call vote. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, an affidavit of <br />the publication of the ordinance amending the civilian defense ordinance was <br />X78 <br />ordered filed. The ordinance amending the civilian defense ordinance, No. rt�9 <br />(amending Ordinance No. 157) was unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman <br />Ell, <br />Anderson, seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />R. F. Martin presented a schedule of operation'of busses on the new routes to.Pacific <br />Portland Cement Co. plant and within the City'andon'motion of Councilman Ander- <br />son, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, said schedule was unanimously approved. <br />At the suggestion of Mr. Martin the Police Department was directed to remove <br />the bus stop sign on Main Street near Middlefield Road to the corner of the in- <br />tersection of said Streets. , <br />The practice of the 'KBIT line busses stopping at the northeast curb of Broadway and <br />El Camino Real and thereupon making a left hand turn through traffic was dis- <br />cussed. Mr. Martin was directed to devise a plan to alleviate this situation. <br />Discussion of the legal posting of bus stop areas and the need of better painting of <br />the street areas thereof was had, and the city attorney was directed to report <br />as to the requirements of law to insure against having other motorists parking <br />cars in bus stop areas. . <br />A communication from A. S. Liguori, secretary of Volunteer Veteran Firemen's Associa- <br />tion of Redwood City, offering a gift consisting of dishes, cutlery, glasses, <br />tables etc. was read and on motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by <br />man Fletcher, a resolution accepting -said gift was unanimously adopted: The <br />clerk was directed to acknowledge the gift by'a letter of appreciation to the <br />association. <br />A request from Alfred Morton for approval by the City Council of the use of the pro- <br />perty on Hopkins Avenue between King and Lowell Streets owned by the Catholic <br />Church without rental for a recreation area and for an order directing that the <br />ground be bladed to render it suitable for play activities was deferred to ob- <br />tain reaction after appropriate publicity thereon. <br />Councilman McNulty referred to iron gratings pipe and other metal at the cemetary <br />and suggested that if the Council had authority much of this might be donated <br />to the Federal metal scrap pile. The City Attorney was requested to report at <br />the next meeting on the legal right to dispose of this material. The need of <br />repainting the wooden entrance to the cemetery was referred to the acting City <br />Manager to report on the cost thereof. <br />Councilman Britschgi referred to an apparent discrepancy between the statement pre- <br />pared by former City Manager C. L. Dimmitt for the water rate committee of the <br />Council as to the gross and net income in the annual audit of Mr. Uhlenberg. <br />3 <br />a <br />
