0 <br />■! <br />After some discussion they propriety of any reduction in *crater rates was defer- <br />red pending the appointment of a permanent city manager and his consideration <br />of the condition of the finances of this department. <br />Councilman McNulty referred to the propriety of considering whether Councilman <br />Louis W. Jenkins Jr. should remain as a member of the Library Board or <br />whether the appointment of a new member should be made in view of Mr. Jenkins' <br />membership on the City Council. After some discussion of the matter in view <br />of the request of the members of the Board that Mr. Jenkins retain his member- <br />ship thereon Mr. Jenkins stated that he had filed a written resignation from <br />the Board and stated that he was disinclined to continue his membership there- <br />on. The appointment of a successor to Mr. Jenkins was deferred to the next <br />meeting. <br />Reports of various city departments for the month of August were,examined and or- <br />dered filed on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />On motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson, it was unanimously <br />resolved that Claims #1796 to #1857 in the amount of $19542.4:5 were approved <br />and ordered paid. <br />A letter from Elmer K. Ross, president of Community Chest and United Service Organ- <br />izations, Redwood City, was received. Mr. Ross spoke on the subject of a en- <br />tertainment and dance for service men at the gymnasium of Sequoia Union High <br />School on Saturday, September 26, 1942, and requested waiver of any license <br />fee and provision for special fire and police detail in view of the large at- <br />tendance expected. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman <br />Fletcher, it was unanimously resolved to grant the pe,mit, waive license fees <br />and provide protection requested. <br />In response to a call from Mayor Granger, Councilman Louis W. Jenkins Jr. stated <br />the policy he intended to follow as a member of the City Council. <br />On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the meeting ad- <br />journed to September 14 at 8:00 P.M. <br />PEA:Md:ES <br />Paul A 'M60arthy, Secr6iarTy Pro Tem. <br />J <br />S <br />1' i <br />
