i MINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR, MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL I' SEPTEMBER 14, 19/2 8:00 P.M. On roll call the following were present: Councilman C. A. Britschgi, E. A. Fletcher W. W. Hilton, Louis Jenkins, Jr., G. W. McNulty, Mayor F. D. Granger and City Clerk C. W. Eltringham. Absent: Councilman H. F. Anderson. Acting City Engineer R. J. Clarke advised that the following bids had been received' t for construction of storm drainage facilities at Broadway -Perry Street; Jame E`r Avenue: AML. C. Smith $44282.80 i 'W. 0. Tyson 3,525.50 1 Peter Sorensen. 42740.80 r The low bid of W. 0. Tyson was not accompanied by a certified check as required •i,; by the notice to bidders and after discussion, during which City Attorney McCarthy advised that the irregularity was not such that the Council must re- r, ject the bid, Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Jenkins, offered a o �4; motion rejecting all bids and instructing the City Clerk to readvertise for new bids to be opened at 3:00 P.M. September 28, 19J,2. ii The City Attorney was directed to report at the next meeting whether or not Council had the right to clean up Union Cemetery and to dispose of salvage metal ,found therein. rij W City Clerk was directed to have the gate over the entrance at Union Cemetery repairer: and repainted. Permission was granted American Legion Auxiliary, Unit'No. 105, 'to conduct a rummage sale on October 1, 2 and 3 on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- man McNulty. The matter of providing additional bicycle radks was discussed and referred to the Chief of Police and City Clerk. Resignation of Earle F. Clegg as member of the Board of Review was accepted, with regret, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hilton. W. 0. Tyson was granted a 35 day extension of time in which to complete the .contract for improvements of Chestnut Street and Broadway on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Communications from Ferris W. Miles, Chairman, Vital War Transportation Conservation 'Committee asking that everything possible be done to conserve the use of City owned motor vehicles was read and ordered filed. A motion by Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposing the Council go on record in favor of supporting the resolution adopted by the City . of Los Angeles requesting that a bill be introduced at the next session of the State Legislature allocating a portion of the 3¢ state sales tax collected in cities, for the use of cities, failed to carry by vote of 4 to 2. Communication from Elmer K. Ross, Manager, 1942 Community Chest U.S.O. Drive asking that Councilmen and City Officials endeavor to be present at the dance for ser- vice men to be held September26 was read and ordered filed. a M
