i <br />MINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR, MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />I' SEPTEMBER 14, 19/2 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />On roll call the following were present: Councilman C. A. Britschgi, E. A. Fletcher <br />W. W. Hilton, Louis Jenkins, Jr., G. W. McNulty, Mayor F. D. Granger and City <br />Clerk C. W. Eltringham. Absent: Councilman H. F. Anderson. <br />Acting City Engineer R. J. Clarke advised that the following bids had been received' <br />t for construction of storm drainage facilities at Broadway -Perry Street; Jame <br />E`r Avenue: <br />AML. C. Smith $44282.80 <br />i 'W. 0. Tyson 3,525.50 <br />1 Peter Sorensen. 42740.80 <br />r The low bid of W. 0. Tyson was not accompanied by a certified check as required <br />•i,; <br />by the notice to bidders and after discussion, during which City Attorney <br />McCarthy advised that the irregularity was not such that the Council must re- <br />r, ject the bid, Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Jenkins, offered a <br />o �4; <br />motion rejecting all bids and instructing the City Clerk to readvertise for new <br />bids to be opened at 3:00 P.M. September 28, 19J,2. <br />ii The City Attorney was directed to report at the next meeting whether or not Council <br />had the right to clean up Union Cemetery and to dispose of salvage metal ,found <br />therein. <br />rij <br />W <br />City Clerk was directed to have the gate over the entrance at Union Cemetery repairer: <br />and repainted. <br />Permission was granted American Legion Auxiliary, Unit'No. 105, 'to conduct a rummage <br />sale on October 1, 2 and 3 on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- <br />man McNulty. <br />The matter of providing additional bicycle radks was discussed and referred to the <br />Chief of Police and City Clerk. <br />Resignation of Earle F. Clegg as member of the Board of Review was accepted, with <br />regret, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hilton. <br />W. 0. Tyson was granted a 35 day extension of time in which to complete the .contract <br />for improvements of Chestnut Street and Broadway on motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. <br />Communications from Ferris W. Miles, Chairman, Vital War Transportation Conservation <br />'Committee asking that everything possible be done to conserve the use of City <br />owned motor vehicles was read and ordered filed. <br />A motion by Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposing the <br />Council go on record in favor of supporting the resolution adopted by the City . <br />of Los Angeles requesting that a bill be introduced at the next session of the <br />State Legislature allocating a portion of the 3¢ state sales tax collected in <br />cities, for the use of cities, failed to carry by vote of 4 to 2. <br />Communication from Elmer K. Ross, Manager, 1942 Community Chest U.S.O. Drive asking <br />that Councilmen and City Officials endeavor to be present at the dance for ser- <br />vice men to be held September26 was read and ordered filed. <br />a <br />M <br />
