Ordinance No. 490 was unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman McNulty, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />Affidavit of publication of war bonus ordinance No. 491 was ordered filed on motion of <br />'v Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. <br />Ordinance No. g, y <br />491 was adopted on motion of Councilman Armstrong, seconded b <br />Councilman Britschgi and unanimous roll call. <br />City Manager Mead reported he had been unable to contact the owners of the parking lot <br />near the Greyhound Bus Station. Matter placed on the agenda for the next meeting. <br />Building Inspector L. M. Duncan reported that Mr. Madden was -planning to move the <br />Redwooa•Villa Tract office now located on El Camino Real near Center Street to <br />his own property. <br />City Manager Mead submitted,a letter from Colonel Skeggs, Distridt Manager of the <br />Highway Commission, advising that the State had complete jurisdiction, over the 10 <br />foot strip between the sidewalks and curbs and the paved highway. In view of this <br />Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that parallel <br />parking be placed in effect. <br />Under the question, Councilman McNulty, questioned whether the motion might <br />not be out of order inasmuch as the strip of highway,was under the jurisdiction <br />of the State Highway Commission. Councilman Britschgi amended his motion to <br />concur with the Highway Commission's suggestion that parallel parking be placed <br />In effect. Motion carried with Councilman Fletcher voting•nay. <br />City Manager Mead presented the matter of renewing contract with the Chamber of <br />Commerce for one year to elpire on June 30, 1944. Councilman Anderson offered <br />resolution, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, unanimously carried on roll call: <br />Letter written by Mr. G. Chevassus, Senior Air -Raid Warden of Emerald Lake'District, <br />requesting that the Easter Bowl at the foot of the Cross be made available to <br />Emerald Lake people for a evacuation center. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi, this request was granted. Councilman Anderson, <br />under the question, stated that the motion was purely premissive and was not <br />Intended to indicate the Easter Bowl as a evacuation center. Motion parried. <br />Mayor Granger called the attention of the Council to the fact that the first Monday <br />In July fell on the 5th which would be a legal holiday. It was decided that the <br />next meeting would be held on Tuesday, July 6th. <br />Councilman Hilton noted that a claim in amount of $15.00 covering law book foi, the <br />City Attorney was included among those presented for approval. The Councilman <br />inquired whether or not the City Attorney has a list of property of the City of <br />Belmont so that same would not become confused with the City of Redwood City's <br />property. City Attorney advised he had such a list which he would file with the <br />City Clerk. <br />Councilman Armstrong stated that he had received two or three complaints on the matter <br />of rats, especially'in the business district and lower Broadway. It was <br />suggested that probably the worst condition existed in the back of the stores <br />on Broadway where the garbage Gans are located.
