The motion before the Council passed with Councilman <br />Anderson voting in the nagative for the reason that he believed the ad- <br />joining property owners should be notified. <br />Councilman Anderson moved that there be added to the letter a <br />paragraph stating that in spite of the foregoing the matter is being <br />referred to the proper city officials to•see if something further can <br />not be done and that he would be advised in thirty days. The motion <br />was seconded by Councilman McNulty and passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from Mr. R. N. Buben asking that the matter of <br />sidewalks on Avondale Avenue be given -early consideration. City Manager <br />Mead replied that he had had the condition inspected and it was disc <br />covered that three acacia trees had pushed up the sidewalk and that it <br />was in a.dangerous condition there and also in other locations in the <br />district. Councilman Granger asked if the proper procedure to follow <br />would be to condemn the sidewalk and have thenproperty owner fix them, <br />which opinion was confirmed by the City Attorney. Councilman Anderson <br />moved that the letter be acknowledged and referred to the City Manager <br />for a report at the next meeting on not only the sidewalk referred to <br />in the letter but also those in the adjacent district. The motion was <br />' seconded by Councilman Armstrong and passed unanimously. <br />CoiAnunieation wasreceived f rom the San Mateo County Planning Commission <br />inviting the Council to attend a joint meeting of those interested in <br />the proposed Veterans Memorial Building which is to be held Friday,. <br />June 15, 1945, at 3:30 P.M. in the Chambers of the Board of Super- <br />visors at the Court House, Redwood City. City Manager Mead advised that <br />Mr. James Hedge, Chairman of th6 War Memorial Committee had also re- <br />ceived the same letter and was planning to attend. He believed it , <br />would be advisable for as many of the councilmen to attend as possible. <br />.Mayor Hilton asked as many of the councilmen to attend as possible. <br />Councilman Granger'asked if it would not be necessary to take action <br />so that the War Memorial Committee could take action for the City, <br />inasmuch as the County Planning Commission had asked if the city had <br />chosen -an exact site for the building. City Manager Mead advised that <br />the Memorial Committee had made a•recommendation for the site and it <br />was the opinion of Councilman Armstrong that this recommendation had <br />been accepted. Councilman Granger moved that the matter be referred <br />tb. the War Memorial Committee asking them to delegate one of their <br />members to act as representative of the city, seconded by Councilman <br />Anderson.
