0 1 I MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL MAY 212 1945 8:00 P.M. On roll call the following were present: Councilmen Harold F.. Anderson, Cc. C. Armstrong, Carl Britschgi, E. A. Fletcher, Floyd D.. Granger, George W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hil.ton.ana City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager Robert W: Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Lodi, Building Inspector L. M. Dun- can, City Collector N. L. Miramontes, Street Superintendent H. L: Winter and Health Inspector Emil Stdin. Minutes of previous meeting were approved on motion of Councilman„Anderson, sec- onded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. Application for dance permit was received from George H. Moseley, Peninsula Lodge of Elks (colored) for public dance Thursday, May 312 no fee having been p atd . Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that permit be granted subject to fee being paid. Motion passed unanimously. Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann to conduct dances Wednesdays, May 23, 30, fee having been paid. Councilman Armstrong asked the Chief of Police if he knew of any reason why the permit should be denied. Chief Collins replied that he did not. Councilman Armstrong asked if there had been no reports of disturbances to which Chief Collins replied that there had been a disturbance a short time ago which had taken place outside of the dance hall and in answer to Councilman Armstrongs question if it hadn't taken seven policemen.to handle the disturbance, replied that all seven policemen were there at the time. Councilman Armstrong was of the opinion that any disturbance which 'took the sei7..ices of seven policemen to quell was va7 serious and believed the Council was in error to allow liquor to be sold at the public dances and moved that the permit be granted with the understanding that no liquor be sold on the premises and if there are any further disturbances permits will be denied. The motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson. Under the question, Councilman Granger asked that the matter be laid over until later in the meeting because those involved might appear in their own support and the Council could tell them on what grounds the permits were being issued. Both Councilmen Anderson -and Armstrong were willing to have the matter laid over. Communication was received from J. P. Gordon, Acting Manager of the Litton Engin- eering Laboratories, requesting that the property of the Litton Engineering Laboratories not be included in proposed annexation of Palomar Park. Council- man Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that the letter be re- ferred to the Planning Commission for their consideration with other matters pertaining to this tract. Motion passed unanimously. 1
