on the agenda. It was so ordered.
201
City Attorney McCarthy advised that he had called at.the southern Pacific office
in San Francisco in regard to the decision reached as to the use of land
on Pennsylvania Avenue. Mr. Mann of the Land Department reported that
the matter was still under investigation. The matter was ordered placed
on the agenda.
'p In regard to the discussion of the amendment of the zoning ordinance to allow
dancing in the first residential district, Councilman Granger moved, seo-
" onded by Councilman Fletcher, that the zoning ordinance be allowed to stand
1; as is, that the matter be dropped from the agenda and action taken only
1!
upon complaint of the residents in the immediate vicinity of the danoing
schools. Councilman Armstrong, under the question, advised he would oppose
any such action for the reason that it was not solving the problem in any
way. It was his opinion that,an ordinance was being violated and that a
violation of it should not be allowed to continue. It was his contention
that if the council desired to continue the school that the ordinance
000
should be amended to allow such activity. Councilman McNulty agreed with
Councilman Armstrong. Oouneilman Britschgi was of the opinion-the dancing
school of Miss Roberts should be allowed to continue until such time as
she can locate elsewhere. He did not believe such activity should be
allowed to operate in the first residential distriOt which would be done if
the ordinance amended. 'Councilman Granger stated he was in favor of
F
allowing thi's'sehool to be established in the first residental district
`i
M inasmuch as a public official had allowed this to be extablished in error.
Councilman Armstrong asked for a roll call vote. Several members of the
audience spoke in'regard to the matter, the majority of them being in
favor of the school being allowed to continue. On roll call, the following,
vote was recorded: Ayes and in favor of the motion: Councilmen Anderson,
Britschgi, Fletcher and Granger, Noes and against the motion: Council-
man Armstrong and McNulty and Mayor Hilton.
Councilman Granger moved abatement proceedings on the agenda be carried on the
agenda and eliminate those which are no longer in existence. Councilman
Armstrong asked what action the Council intended to take in regard to these
proceedings. Councilman Granger expressed the opinion that he was not in
favor of doing anything further until the housing shortage was relieved,
in which opinion Councilman Fletcher concurred. Councilman Britschgi moved,
seconded by Councilman Granger, that the Rice and Banta abatement proceed-
ings be carried on the agenda until the second meeting in February and the
Hollenbaugh, Buhler, Roberts and Eckerle proceedings be dropped inasmuch
y as they have been either abated or other action taken. The motion passed
. with Councilman Armstrong in the negative.
Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded'by'Councilman Anderson, that the mayor be
empowered to sign salary check due to the late Bernard Berhaeque and made
payable to Mrs. Bernard Bernal que. Motion passed unanimously.
, Councilman Armstrong stated he had read the taxicab ordinance very carefully
