Under the question, Mayor Hilton <br />asked the City Manager to write to Sacramento and obtain information as to <br />I s <br />how other cities are handling this matter. Motion passed unanimously. <br />! <br />Communication was received from Reverend Gomes, secretary of the Redwood City <br />y <br />R Ministerial Association, in regard to rumored removal of the Cross. City <br />j <br />Manager Blom explained that he had received a letter from owners of the <br />adjoining property who claimed that the guy wires holding up the Cross <br />were on their property. A survey was planned to ascertain whether this was <br />correct or not. The owners also stated that the Cross was objectionable <br />because of the fact that children were getting inside of it and there was <br />considerable obscene writing on the inside of the Cross. He stated that <br />plans were being formed for the future improvement of the Cross inasmuch <br />as a new and larger water reservoir would be needed which would necessitate <br />acquiring new property. It was planned to reconstruct the Cross at that <br />time. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the <br />i <br />City Manager be instructed to inform the Ministerial Association that the <br />principal part of the Cross is located on municipal property and there is <br />f <br />no intent or desire on the part of the Council to remove it. Motion <br />{ <br />passed unanimously. <br />Application for restaurant license was received from A. L. Stay for permission to <br />operate a restaurant at the Port of Redwood. The application had been re <br />ferred to the Health Department but no report had been received. Council- <br />man Werder moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the permit be <br />granted subject to the approval of the Health Department. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Application was received from Dr. R. H. Jurden requesting permission to operate <br />a vetinarian hospital on the west side of Bayshore Highway midway between <br />i <br />Rogers Street and Brewster Avenue. City Manager Blom explained this was in <br />the industrial area. There was some discussion in regard to the application;' <br />the general consensus being in favor of the application. Councilman Werder <br />moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, permit to Dr. R. H. Jurden be grantedrill <br />to erect a vetinarian hospital on Bayshore Highway, subject to the approval <br />of the health authorities. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from City Manager Blom requesting authority to proceed <br />with condemnation proceedings to acquire land for the sewage treatment plant, <br />Animal Shelter site and also an easement ten feet in width along the north <br />side of Bayshore Highway from Steinberger Street to Harbor Boulevard.
