-- - -- - -- <br />36 a <br />w, <br />Councilman Britschgi dffered resolution authorizing City Manager Mead to sign <br />memorandum of agreement with the State Highway Department in regard to <br />funds allocated for the biennium 19+5-47. The motion was seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty and on roll call was unanimously adopted. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised that in regard to the sale of Lot 51, Wooster, <br />Whitton and Montgomery Subdivision, the Pensinsula Title Company had ad- <br />vided him that before th deed can be put on record and the transaction <br />completed they wished the Council to approve the street to be opened <br />through Poplar'Street. He presented resolution authorizing dedication <br />of extension of Poplar Avenue as a public thoroughfare. Councilman <br />Anderson offered the resolution, seconded by Councilman McNulty. On roll <br />call the resolution was unanimously adopted. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised that he had been informed by Senator Parkman <br />to prepare a contract to be submitted to the Department of Finance to <br />provide for the payment of $3750 for the next biennium for the maintenance <br />of Union Cemetery. He said he had submitted this contract to the Finance <br />Department. He presented a resolution authorizing the City Attorney to <br />approvethis contract when it is returned. Councilman Granger offered <br />the resolution, seconded by Councilman Anderson. On roll call resolution <br />passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Granger moved that a letter be sent to Senator Parkman expressing <br />the Council's appreciation for the allocation of funds for the maintenance <br />of Union Cemetery. The motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson and <br />passed unanimously. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised that City Manager Mead had requested him to <br />prepare a resolution to be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors asking <br />them to take some action to stop the practice of fortune telling in <br />the unincorporated area. City Manager Mead informed the Council that <br />the practice of fortune telling is springing; up just outside the city <br />limits and that surrounding cities and counties were passing; legislation <br />to stop this practice. He was of the opinion that unless San Mateo <br />County took similar action, the area outside of Redwood City would be E <br />the logical place for this type of practice. Councilman Anderson offered <br />resolution to be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors asking their sup- <br />port in this matter, seconded by Councilman Granger. The resolution was <br />unanimously adopted on roll call. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised that under the McEnerney Suit to auiet title <br />to 75 tax delinquent lots, several lots had been sold by the County and <br />the city had received its pro rata share of the purchase price. He said <br />if the city received the decree it would accrue to the benefit of the <br />owners of the lots and he believed that these ocmers should pay to the <br />
