9
Communication from C. D. Richardson, 223 Oakdale Street, requesting traffic signals or`"''
police protection at the Rogers and El Camino Real intersection. City Manager Blom
is
advised that the city was working with the State Highway Department on this and other ±.
A' _
intersections and that a traffic count had been taken of this intersection, however,
it waa his opinion that it would be some time before traffic signals could be in-
stalled.,. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the City
Manager be instructed to address a communication to Mr. Richardson advising him of
. the steps that are being taken to correct the conditions at the intersection and the
probable course of action that will be followed. Motion passed unanimously'. Coun-
cilms:n Granger asked the status of the Brewster and Broadway crossings at E1 Camino
Real. City Manager Blom advised that these intersections are being worked on at
the same time as the above one and that it will probably take six months before new
equipment is available for the traffic signals. The city is working out the plans
for the improvements and it is possible that the State may contribute to the cost.
Application for service station and garage at the corner of Woodside Road and Madrone
Street was received. Building Inspector Duncan advised thatall such permits must
be issued by the Council. Inasmuch as no plans of the service station were submitted,
the applicant was instructed to submit such plans prior to the next meeting of the
Council to the City Manager.
Recommendation to rezone Lots 7 to 12, Block 3, Range D. Mezesville, from second residen-
tial district to business district was received from the Planning Commission. The
location of the area is on the westerly side of Jefferson between Bradford and
Fuller Streets. Councilman Armstrong offered introduction of ordinance rezoning
Lots 7 to 12, Block 3, Range D, Mezesville from second residential to business dis-
trict, seconded by Councilman Werder. Motion passed unanimously. .
City Attorney McCarthy advised there was the necessity of fixing the fire zone for
the above area. The general consensus of the Council was that this area should be
placed in the second fire zone and the City Attorney was so instructed.
Recommendation of the Traffic and Safety Commission for change in the parking and traffic
flow on Broadway, California and Winklebleck Streets was received along with a blue-
print plan showing the .proposed plan. It was decided that the plan was too in-
volved to take action upon at this meeting and Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded
by Councilman Werder, that the Council meet with the Traffic.and Safety Commission
at their meeting Monday, February 24, at which time the matter would be discussed
at length and before the general public. Motion passed unanimously.
Claim for Damages against the City by Earle Thomas was read by the Clerk. Damage was
claimed to be caused from defective drainage ditch. Councilman Britschgi moved,
seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the claim be denied and the proper authorities
be instructed to handle the matter. Motion passed unanimously.
A Mr. Edwards, residing between Blandford and Edgewood Road on Alameda de las Pulgas
appeared before the Council requesting permission to install a 121, redwood culvert in
the drainage ditch in front of.his property. This ditch is the one which Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Hogan had filled in and were notified to reopen. The city crews had
reopened the ditch upon failure of the Hogans to do so. City Manager Blom stated
there would be no objection to a 1211 pipe as requested but that it should be 1211 -
inside measurement. He stated he did not believe that the pipe would improve ,the,
drainage condition but that it would probably improve the appearance of the
U
