Only one bid was received, that of the Redwood City Tribune.
Bid was for $1.00 for the first square and $.50 for the second and subsequent in-
sertions. Councilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the
bid of the Redwood City Tribune for official advertising for the period March 1,
1947 to February 29, 1948, be accepted. Motion passed unanimously.
Mr. R. F. Martin extended invitation to safety meeting at McKinley School on March 7.
Mayor Hilton thanked Mr. Martin for the invitation and urged as many councilmen as
possible to attend.
City Manager Blom reported on bids received on Fire Alarm equipment. Bids had been
received on equipment to replace that which is inadequate and also on some auxil-
liary equipment which is required by the Underwriters and which will improve the
city's rating. Funds for the equipment are provided in the bond issue. The
equipment includes a transmitter to notify off -shift men and to blow the whistle;
recording equipment which records date, time, etc. on fires; and a master clock.
Two bids had been received, one from the Gamewell Company in the amount of $1998.57
delivered including sales tax. The right is reserved on the master clock to adjust
the price. The Southern Switch and Signal Company's bid was In the amount of
$4307.56. The difference in the amount of the bid is due to the price quoted for
the transmitter and it was the opinion of the City Manager that it was probably a
more complicated one that the city proposed to purchase. No literature or descrip-
tion was enclosed with the bid describing this equipment. The City Manager recom-
mended that the bid of Gamewell Company be accepted with the understanding that
it be paid for from the bond fund. Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Council -
Granger, that the City Manager's recommendation be accepted. Motion passed
unanimously.
