21.8. <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JUNE 23s 1947 <br />9:00 0. .M. <br />In the absence of Mayor Hilton, City Clerk Dodge called the meeting to order an announced <br />that nominations were in order for a mayor pro tem. Councilman Holmquist moved, <br />seconded by Cpuncilman Swift, that Councilman Granger be nominated as mayor pro tem. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />ON BOLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen H. E. Holmquist, George W. McNulty, <br />Arthur V. Swift, Mayor pro tem Floyd D. Granger and City Clerk R. S. Dodge . Also <br />present were:- City Manager E. W. Blom, City Attorney Cuthbert B. Currie, Police <br />Chief C. L. Collins, City Engineer C. L. Longson and Street Superintendent R. E. <br />Pontow. Absent: Mayor W. W. Hilton, Councilmen Carl A. Britschgi and William M. <br />Werder. <br />Councilman Werder entered the meeting shortly after it had been called to order. <br />The Mayor pro tem explained that this meeting had been called for the purpose of <br />considering the purchase of the Robertson property located at Middlefield Road and <br />Jefferson Avenue. City Manager Blom presented a letter from Mr. W. G. Frost, dated <br />June 21, 1947s in which he agreed to accept $45,000 for this property if he were <br />given formal notice of the Council's acceptance before June 25th. The City Manager <br />explained that this letter had been written in answer to his letter of June 19, in <br />which he stated that if Mr. Frost would give a written offer to sell the property <br />he would be willing to call a special meeting of the Council to consider the offer. <br />Mayor Hilton and Councilman Britschgi were both out of town, however, the City Mana- <br />ger had contacted Councilman Britschgi by telephone and he had indicated that he <br />was in favor of accepting Mr. Frost's offer. It had not been possible to contact <br />Mayor Hilton. <br />City Manager Blom described the property as having a frontage of 122.2E feet on <br />Jefferson Avenue and 213.30 feet on Middlefield Road. The rear line parallel to <br />Middlefield Road is 290 feet long with the average length along Middlefield Road <br />being 250 feet. There is W little over 30,000 square feet in the property, or <br />about 7/10ths of an acre. <br />Councilman Werder, with the thought in mind, that the Council has been acquainted <br />with the problem for some time, moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, that the City <br />Manager be instructed to make the best possible arrangements with Mr. Frost not to <br />go over $45,000 for the Robertson property. He suggested a roll call vote. The <br />following vote was recorded: Ayes and in favor of the motion: Councilman Granger, <br />Holmquist, McNulty, Swift and Werder. Noes and against the motion: None. Absent: <br />Mayor Hilton and Councilman Britschgi. <br />Councilman Granger asked the necessary steps to be taken in the matter. City <br />Attorney Currie advised that the City Manager should complete the negotiations and <br />a definite figure arrived at for the sale of the property. The deed should be <br />deposited with the title company and it would probably come before the next meeting <br />of the Council for acceptance. <br />City Manager Blom advised that there is $25,000 bond fund for this purpose. He <br />stated he believed that this particular piece of property was in mind when this <br />sum was set up in the bond program. $20,000 is available in the post war fund. <br />That fund includes money received from the sale of the old library building and he <br />fl <br />r <br />G,. <br />h' = I <br />I <br />
