Motion -passed unanimously. 253 <br />Communication was read from the law firm of Knight, Boland and Riordan on behalf of <br />their client, Remington Rand, Inc., protesting an assessment upon tabulating machines <br />rented by the National Motor Bearing Company. Mr. J. W. Radil appeared on behalf of <br />the law firm and Judge R. A. Rapsey appeared on behalf of Remington Rand, Inc. 'It <br />was their request'to discuss the matter informally and to have a formal hearing at <br />some other date. It was agreed that'the matter was too lengthy to discuss at this <br />time and it was suggested that the Assessor and the appraisal firm discuss the matter <br />and return a report and recommendation. Mr. Radil asked that the records show that <br />the matter is being postponed to an adjourned meeting of the City Council sitting <br />as a Board of Equalization. This was agreed upon. <br />The Mayor called for verbal protests and the following appeared: <br />Mr. George Skanderup, 540 E1 Camino Real, protested assessment against property at <br />this address. <br />Mr. Louis Weiss, 949 Edgewood Road, protested the entire assessment roll, stating he <br />believed he was paying a greater portion than he should according to assessments <br />against other property. <br />Mr. Sadler of the Sadler Supply Company located at Lincoln Avenue and E1 Camino <br />protested assessment against his property and requested that he be'given a division <br />of fixtures and stock at this place of business. <br />i <br />Mr. Vernon L. Robert protested assessment on property located at 1631 Union Avenue. <br />i! <br />Mr. F. Bamut protested assessment on property and improvements at No. 1 Duane. <br />Mr. Robert G. Gillespie protested assessment on property at 35 Duane. <br />kk <br />t? i! Mr. Henry A. Beeger protested assessment on property which houses the Woolworth <br />Company and Town Shop. He believed there was an inequality in assessment against <br />l this property and other property on Broadway. He also protested assessment on prop- <br />erty on which is situated the Richfield Service Station at Main and Middlefield. <br />Mrs.'L. Otzen, 4o6 Hopkins Avenue, protested assessment on property at this address. <br />Mr. A. B. Cheatham protested assessment on parking lot property at California and <br />Winklebleck Streets and also against his home at 401*Edgewood Road, although he <br />later withdrew his protest in regard to the assessment on his home. <br />Mr. James Whitehead, 58 Lowell Street, protested assessment on property at this <br />address and also against assesement'on the American Legion property. <br />All protests were referred to the City Assessor and appraisal firm for further check <br />to determine if the assessments were in order with the provision that a report be <br />returned at a later meeting of the Board of Equalization. <br />Miss May Cook 2814 Broadwa a eared rotestin assessment on property at this <br />Y , Y, PP P g P p Y <br />address. The matter was referred to the City Assessor and appraisal firm. Mr. <br />p!i William Cleminshaw advised that 15% depreciation had been allowed on this property <br />due to its location and he recommended no change in the assessment. The City Assess- <br />or concurred in this recommendation. <br />a <br />COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST MOVED, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the meeting be adjourned <br />to 10:00 A.
