City Attorney Currie
suggested that the appraisers recheck the Manufacturing Company property to satisfy
Mr. Meussdorffer.
A RECESS was declared at this time and when -the meeting was reconvened the matter of the
Remington Rand assessment was discussed. Mr. Radil of the law firm of Knight, Boland
and Riordan, appeared and requested that testimony be taken under oath. It was
decided, however, that at this time the matter would be discussed informally. City
Assessor Brophy reported that the figure of $30,000 on Remington Rand equipment
rented to the National Motor Bearing Company was correct. He recommended that there
be allowed a 10% depreciation on this figure and then take 60% of that figure for
the purpose of taxation. There was considerable discussion by Mr. Radill and Mr.
Brophy as to the method used to determine -the percentage of depreciation. Mr.
Radill offered'a compromise of 20% depreciation instead of the 30% requested by his
client. 'Mr. Brophy was willing to'concede 15%. The Council; however, did not feel
that any concession should be granted and Councilman Granger moved, seconded by
Councilman Holmquist, that the'assessment of Remington Rand of $30,000 be reduced
by taking their original cost as set forth in the affidavit as presented by them
and allowing a 10% depreciation and then 60% of that figure. Motion passed unani-
mously.
COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST MOVED, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the meeting be adjourned
until 10:30 A. M., Friday, August 22, 1947.
