296 that houses would not face on alley. Motion carried. <br />HARRY HOEFFLER APPLICATION FOR SIGN PERMIT. Mr. Nevin, Manager of the firm and A. L. <br />Truitt of the Doxsee Sign Company appeared to represent erection of the sign at the <br />'south side of front property line. Paul McCarthy appeared for Herbst Realty Company, <br />objecting to the sign,on the.grounds that his client would be blocked off. After <br />considerable discussion Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded -by Councilman Werder, <br />that request be denied. Motion carried. <br />MR. J. H. STUBBE APPEARED before the Council to request their cooperation in having the <br />Bayshore Highway relocated before it is made into a freeway. He stated that <br />Colonel Skeggs of the State Highway Commission had agreed to make a survey with the <br />purpose of making an estimate of the cost of such relocation. Mr. Stubbe considered <br />it vital to Redwood City's future development that the Bayshore should be relocated <br />nearer the Bay. Councilman Britschgi suggested that Mr. Stubbe take the matter up <br />with the Planning Commission, sending his plan to them for their consideration. <br />The Council requested City Clerk Ddodge to notify the Planning Commission regarding <br />,Mr. Stubbe's proposal. <br />CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE REPORTED ON THE ALCOHOL BEVERAGE ALLOCATION received from the State <br />Controller for the period of January lst to June 30th, 1947. He recommended that <br />the City accept the check under protest in line with the recent recommendation of <br />the League of California Cities, inasmuch as Section 37 of the Alcoholic Beverage <br />Control Act provides that all monies collected from fees shall be paid to cities. <br />Councilman Holmquist so moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and carried. <br />CITY MANAGER ROLISON REPORTED ON PETITION TO IMPROVE 400 Block on Park Street. Since it <br />is so small a project, and was not included in the present assessment district, Mr. <br />Rolison suggested that this improvement might well wait until Spring, when a larger <br />project could be developed, which:would justify the expense. Possibility of prop— <br />erty owners entering into a private agreement was also discussed. In the interim, <br />it would be advisable to get the backing of 100% of the residents of that area. <br />Upon the City Manager's recommendation, the matter was placed on the agenda for <br />the- next Council meeting. <br />THE D. D. RESTAURANT'S APPLICATION FOR DANCE PERMIT was discussed, with favorable reports <br />from the Building Inspector and Fire Department being given. Councilman Granger <br />moved the permit be granted. Motion seconded by Councilman Werder, and carried. <br />MR. M. G. ARMIGO'S REQUEST FOR DEED TO PROPERTY was discussed. City Attorney Currie <br />submitted a sketch to the Council showing location of property in question, and <br />stating that it could be of no possible future worth to the City. Mr. Armijo's <br />intention is to build a retaining wall approximately two feet in height for the <br />purpose of partially leveling his property. Councilman Granger suggested that it <br />be understood that the wall could at no time be built to a height greater than <br />requested at this time, and that an agreement be entered into specifically stating <br />this, so that the City would be protected in the event of a change in ownership. <br />Councilman werder moved that the request be granted, as amended by Councilman <br />Granger, and with the proviso that Mr. Armijo should stand any legal or other <br />expense involved in this matter. Councilman Britschgi seconded the motion as -amended. <br />Motion carried. <br />HYNDING PROPERTY ABATEMENT PROCEEDINGS.
