1
Cl
i
Communication was received from the Redwood City Planning Commission recommending
the munbering on the part of Winslow Street which was formerly Chilton Street
be changed in accordance with an attached sketch. It was pointed out that
the Commission, believed this renumbering should be considered .only a tempor-
ary elpedi, ent and that a study should be made of the entire area east of E1
Camino Real with a view to arriving at a system•of numbering which would be
consistent and provide for future expansion. There was some discussion in
regard to making a temporary change but it was brought out that there were
conflicting numbers on the two parts of Winslow at the present time and that
a temporary renumbering of the street seemed to be the only solution to the
problem. Due to the fact that -the ordinance had already been passed chang-
ing the name of Chilton Street to Winslow, it was necessary to change the
numbering. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that
the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted. Motion passed
unanimously.
Communication was received from .the Redwood City Planning Commission recommending
granting of a permit to the C. B. Fabrications, Inc., represented locally
by William M. Connelly, to erect a steel building frame for exhibition and
sales purposes on the corner of Laurel and El Camino Real subject to follow-
ing restrictions: Permit to be revocable and to expire on July 1, 1947;
posting of $50 bond or cash .to guarantee removal of building frame upon pro-
per request of the city; use of a properly approved sign or signs showing
temporary nature of structure. Mr. Connelly appeared in behalf of hi,s,,appli-
cation. Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the
permit be granted subject to the restrictions as set forth by the Planning
Commission. Under the question, Councilman Britschgi asked how this permit
would effect the prefabricated ordinance. City Manager Blom advised that
the ordinance governing prefabricated structures had not been passed but
that the Council had approved the 1945 Building Code which contains a section
covering prefabricated structures which provides that the same structural con-
ditions must be met as are set forth for other uniform building. He stated
he would have Building Inspector Duncan check to see if the proposed frame
complies with the Code. Councilman Granger indicated he was going to vote
against the permit. Councilman Werder included in his motion that the Build-
ing Inspector check to see if the Code were complied with. Motion passed
with Councilman Granger voting in the negative.
Communications were received from Carolina G. Barton and from the John Gill P.T.A.
requesting the Council reconsider abolishing the position of Woman Welfare
Worker. Mr, Homer Spellenberg appeared as spokesman for the P.T.A., and
stressed the importance of such a position from the elementary schools stand-
point. It was explained by members of the Council that the Police Department
i
was intending to continue the work as it had done before the was. During the
war, manpower shortage had made it necessary to hire a woman for this work.
City Manager Blom advised that the Police Department would not be able to
engage in the preventive type of work that had been done but would serve as a
43
