City Attorney Mo=
Carthy advised he would bring in such an amendment at the next meeting.
Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, introduction of
ordinance providing for installation of parking meters with changes as di-
rected. Motion passed unanimously.
City Manager Blom reported that he had attended a meeting in Redwood Village to j 1
discuss with residents a plan they were making to have some type of fire pro-
tection.' They were proceeding with the idea of annexing to the Menlo Park
Fire District. However, it was not believed worthwhile for the Menlo Park
Fire District to take them in due to the distance, etc., and it was felt more
il desirable to annex to Redwood City. Mr. Blom advised them that he believed
the Council would look with favor upon a petition for annexation to the city.
The improvement sr are not 1n accordance with our specifications but were put
in according to county specifications. They differ from our specifications
in that they nave the rolled type combined curb, gutter and sidewalks and all
light poles are installed in the street. There are no utility easements in
the rear of the lots. This will present a difficulty in cleaning the streets.
Aside from these differences, the subdivision is laid out quite well. The
water mains are laid out in accordance with a plan submitted by former Fire
Chief Ryan and the City Manager. Mr. Blom had advised the residents that he
did not believe the Council would be willing to take over the fire protection
unless the city furnished water to the district.• This was agreeable to the
residents. If a petition is submitted at the meeting of December 16th,
annexation proceedings can be completed by March lst, which would add this jjj
district to the city tax rolls. The Council was of the opinion that this
would be a natural annexation and that it would look with favor upon such a
petition. Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the
City Manager's recommendation be accepted and the residents of that area be
notified of the Council's willingness to near an application for annexation
to the city. Motion passed unanimously.
Assistant Building Inspector Rreiss made a report in regard to the abatement pro-
ceedings against the Viarenza property on E1 Camino Real. He advised that
sanitary facilities were being provided but the difficulty lay in that there
was no lateral for this lot and a proper hook-up of the sewer can not be
made. Application will have to be made to the State for permission to hook
into the main sewer. Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Councilman
Britschgi, that the matter be carried on the agenda for the meeting of
December 16, 1946. Motion passed unanimously.
City Manager.Blom advised that Health Inspector Smith of the County Health Depart -
went had visited the Williamson Fertilizer Plant one day last week and that
all of the wet manure had been removed. The only material on hand was three
or four tons that was dry enough and ready to be processed. The plant was
generally cleaned up. It was Mr. Blom's opinion.that the plant could not be
properly operated until the proper drying unit was installed and recommended
j that the matter be carried on the agenda. Councilman Granger moved, seconded
j by Councilman,McNulty, that the matter be carried on the agenda and the City
's
