He requested that the City Manager recommend to the Council that <br />the bid be changed to provide for the amount omitted and stated that if the <br />request were granted work would be started within ten days and completed with <br />in sixty days from date of signing contract. Upon inquiry, City Attorney <br />rMcCarthy advised that the Council could enforce the contract on the bid as <br />submitted or that the request could be granted if,the City Engineer considers <br />an error had been made in the original bid. City Engineer Wilson said he had <br />examined the work sheet and that it had not shown figures for baokfill or <br />the bond. <br />Councilman Werder expressed the opinion that he would be willing to accept the <br />correction to the bid if the City Manager was assured that the completion time <br />was satisfactory. City Manager Blom stated he would like to have amore <br />specific completion date for the two rush jobs as mentioned previously and <br />sniggested that authority be granted him to enter into a contract with Mr. <br />Conner provided a satisfactory completion time can be agreed upon. Council- <br />man Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the bid of Harvey <br />Conner be accepted as modified, i.e., adding 12¢ per lineal foot of trench <br />and 1-1/210 of contract price for faithful performance bond, provided the City <br />Manager can work out a satisfactory agreement for the completion of the work. <br />Under the question, Councilman Granger asked to have the City Attorney draft <br />The final map of Des Jardin Park was presented by City Engineer Don S. He stated <br />that his firm is preparing a plan covering off street and on curb parking for <br />the city. A survey had been made of the number of available parking spaces <br />in the business district. He stated that about 80% of the curb space`.is <br />available for parking in Redwood City which is extremely high. Two checks had <br />been made of the parking in the business district in the past week and re- <br />sults showed that out of 1300 available spaces, 546 spaces were occupied at <br />8;00 A. M. and 802 at 9;00 A. M., which indicated that many business people <br />were using curb parking. The most serious condition exists on the bldek on <br />Broadway between E1 Camino Real and the railroad tracks. Double parking is <br />greatly responsible for some of the confusion • . caused in this block which <br />is due to no curb spaces and also busses load and discharge passengers from <br />'5 <br />a letter <br />to <br />the City Clerk <br />that this procedure is legal.
