The committee was to keep this <br />comment in mind but the Mayor pointed out that this was after all a City street. <br />Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF DEPART14ENTS REQUESTED BY COUNCILMAN GRANGER. A four page report was submitted <br />by the Fire Department. Councilman Granger stated what he had in mind was a progress <br />report covering the departments but not lengthy. A news letter was suggested. City <br />Manager Rolison offered to summarize a report and try that. Councilman Granger <br />moved City Manager Rolison be authorized to try his recommendation, seconded by Coun- <br />n <br />cilman Morgan, and carried, Councilman Britschgi voting No. Councilman Britschgi <br />thought this was needless extra work. <br />CITY MANAGERIS THIRD QUARTER FINANCIAL REPORT WAS SUBMITTED, a copy haveing been sent to <br />each Councilman, the statement showing necessary transfers to complete this quarter. ({, <br />Councilman Holmquist moved that necessary transfers be made, seconded by Councilman <br />Granger, and carried. <br />ABATEMENT OF WEEDS. Auditor Brophy submitted a request for transfer of $5000 from <br />Unbudgeted Reserve to Weed Abatement due to change in'method of abatement this year. <br />Instead of burning as done previously, property was disced in about 3 weeks; levy on <br />properties affected would be collectable with current taxes. Chief Lodi was of the <br />opinion that fire hazard was 90% eliminated by this method. Mr. Brophy asked that <br />two claims amounting to $5,4.05 not included with the attached claim be approved. <br />After discussion Councilman Morgan moved approval of transfer and payment of claims, <br />seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />KENSINGTON SQUARE IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT. City Engineer Jain stated they were proceeding <br />on basis of installing sanitary, storm sewers, and four culverts; channel of creek <br />- <br />,would be dredged in order to deepen. After estimate competitive bids would be called <br />for and it would be residents choice whether they wished the work done by outside <br />contractor or the City. C. W. Linder appeared in behalf of residents in regards to <br />streets and Mr. Silva also appeared. They were assured that it was the intent of the <br />City to install fire hydrants at the. City expense in conjunction with the other work <br />it would be necessary to petition for streets after the sewer, etc., installation. <br />Mr. Silva wished a commitment from City Manager Rolison for insurance from the FHA. <br />After resolution was passed, and bids submitted City Manager Rolison could write <br />the FHA that sewers, etc. were being installed, and this procedure was carried out <br />on the part of the City for all improvement districts. Councilman Holmquist offered <br />resolution,of preliminary determination, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried <br />on roll call. Councilman Swift noted absent. <br />.RE SOLUTION No. 697. <br />RESOLUTION OF PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION KENSINGTON SQUARE No. 1 (1948-2) <br />RESOLVED, by the City Council of Redwood City, that it does hereby preliminarily <br />determine that the public convenience and necessity require, and that it intends to <br />order, the following work to be done and improvements to be made in and for said <br />City, to wit: <br />(a) The improving of Alameda de las Pulgas by constructing end installing therein <br />a 61' vitrified clay sanitary sewer main from a point opposite Lot 6, Block 9, <br />Kensington Square, to the intersection with Dover Road, and an 911 vitrified <br />clay sanitary sewer main from the intersection with Dover Road to a point <br />opposite Lot 18, Block 15, Kensington Square and from a point opposite Lot 7, <br />Block 16, Kensington Square in said street to the intersection with Vera, com- <br />plete with all necessary wyes, laterals, manholes, lampholes and all other <br />structures appurtenant thereto; by constructing therein a 5811 by 361, corru- <br />gated, metal pipe arch culvert across said street to the intersection of said <br />street with Madison Avenue, complete with catch basins, reinforced concrete <br />head walls and hand railings at either end of said culvert; by constructing <br />therein a 3011 reinforced concrete pipe storm sewer main from the intersection <br />
