City Manager Rolison recommended these be eliminated <br />after study by the Traffic Fact -Finding Committee. Parked cars at this point caused <br />congestion and made right hand turns difficult and the Fire Department found it <br />difficult to negotiate when cars were parked there. The meters are to be removed <br />on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. <br />MONIES COLLECTED THROUGH SALVAGE DRIVE BY CIVILIAN DEFENSE WORKERS DURI14G THE WAR were <br />Invested in "G11 Bonds in the amount of $1000. They submitted a resolution that on <br />maturity of these bonds the money should be presented to the Redwood City Library <br />Commission for the purpose of founding a Department of American History, such depart- <br />ment to be dedicated to the civilian defense personnel, an appropriate inscription <br />to be affixed to the Department of American History section, setting forth the <br />source and purpose of such section. Councilman Holmquist offered such a resolution <br />and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried on roll call. <br />Councilman Swift noted absent. <br />RE S0LUTI ON No. 702 <br />WHEREAS civilian defense workers enrolled in the Redwood City Civilian Council <br />during the period of the war, conducted several salvage drives from which certain <br />sums of monies were derived from sale of waste paper and other materials; and <br />WHEREAS, on the recommendation of these civilian defense workers, these monies <br />were deposited in escrow with the City of Redwood City, to be used for whatever <br />purpose the then Commander of Civilian Defense, should specify; and <br />WHEREAS, on the recommendation of the Redwood City Council approved by the <br />Redwood. Gity War Council, $1,000 of these monies, was invested in a Series G Treas- <br />ury Bond, in order that it might not lose its identity in the City Treasury; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the recommendation or Floyd D. Granger, Commander of the r <br />civilian defense units at that time, and his associates on the Redwood City War <br />Council, namely Chester Armstrong, Louis Dematteis, S. S. Mayo, and Duncan Reynard, <br />that the proceeds of this bond on maturity should be best invested in a project <br />that will maintain in the hearts and minds of our citizens, the principles of <br />Americanism, and a knowledge of the founding and development of our nation; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that upon maturity, the porceeds realized from <br />the sale of the $1,000 Series °G° Bond, be presented to the Redwood City Library <br />Commission, for the purpose of founding in the Library a Department of American <br />; <br />History, these monies to be expended solely for books on American history to be <br />selected by the Redwood City Library Commission, and used by the Redwood City <br />residents through the customary library channels; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Redwood City Library Commission be requested <br />to dedicate the Department of American History in the Redwood City Library to the <br />civilian defense personnel who contributed so much to the war effort, and to <br />perpetually maintain and enlarge the number of books in this Department as the <br />Commission may deem advisable to carry out the above purpose; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate inscription be affixed to the <br />Department of American History section, setting forth the source and purpose of <br />such section. <br />Passed and adopted by the City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on <br />the 18th day of April, 1919, by the following vote: I <br />{ <br />AYES, Councilmen: BRITSCHGI, GRANGER,HO114QUIST1 MORGAN, SPILLERS, and Mayor <br />WERDER. <br />NOES, Councilmen: NONE; <br />ABSENT, Councilmen: SWIFT. <br />W.
