Campbell, Hayes & Custer,counsel for Maryland Casualty Company <br />advised that under the City's insurance policy no coverage is extended to the City as set forth in the <br />third and fourth dLauses of action in the amended complaint that the City was lible on the basis of an <br />alleged contract or agreement for the extension of water mains and the provision of water for fire <br />protection to the plaintiff. The letter further stated that they would remain in the case as counsel <br />and work with the City Attorney in connection with the City's defense. Councilman Britschgi moved that <br />fi <br />I communication be filed, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried. <br />PUBLIC HEARING ON ORDINANCE SETTING TAX RATE FOR 1949-50. Affidavit of pib ication was ordered filed _by the <br />Mayor. <br />ORDINANCE 621 SETTING TALC RATE FOR FISCAVfEAR 1949-50- Councilman Britschgi moved adoption of ordinance, <br />seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried on roll call. Councilman Holmquist noted absent. <br />REPORT ON FRED KRAFT, EMERALD LAKE, WATER CONNECTION. Councilman Granger reported that Mr. ltolison and <br />Mr.Winter had been with him on the premises of Mr.Kraft and it appeared that Mr. Kraft would have to <br />get the cooperation of people in that area and if he could do so the City would try to work out some- . <br />thing with him. There was not enough water for people there. Mr.Kraft stated the Public Utilities <br />Commission advised that he should claim 100 ft extension for new construction, and that very few had <br />received it during the past few years due to the shortage of pipe. He felt that Water Superintendent <br />would like to see something done and suggested a 4° main for 19 or 12 families. He claimed that others <br />who were building were awaiting the outcome of his request. Mr. Winter stated he suggested Mr. Kraft <br />put in temporary line. Councilman Britschgi moved that this problem be turned over to the•City Manager <br />and Water Department for the problem to be worked out, seconded by Councilman Spillers. Mr. Kraft <br />objedted to having to connect to line 700 ft down the hill. City Manager did not think it feasible to <br />make connection for one. If done right it should be a 41' main and if it had to be a 6" main the City <br />might stand the difference. It was estimated that the cost of 1200 ft of 41, line would cost $3000. <br />Yotion carried. <br />TRAFFIC FACT FINDING COMMITTEE SURVEY OF BUS STOPS. City Manager Rolison reported there was only stop be <br />tween E1 Camino Real and Main on the south side of Broadway and it was recommended that the present <br />stop at Hamilton be removed and two new stops be installed, one at Winslow in frontof Kuhn's Jewelry <br />Store and the other at Middlefield in front of Butler Brothers, Councilman Spillers moved approval <br />seconded by Councilman Swift, City Attorney thought this should be carried on agenda as ordinance might <br />be neWssary. Motion withdrawn by maker with consent of the second. Agenda for report by City Attorney. <br />RESOLUTION 766. STOP SIGNS REDWOOD VILLAGE. CITY MANAGER REPORTED STUDY HAD BEEN MADE BY TRAFFIC FACT <br />FINDING CO?E!ITTEE and it was recommended that stop signs be established at Charter and Spring, Charter <br />& Middlefield, Flynn & Middlefield and Douglas & Middlefield. The sign at Spring and Charter would <br />match the county sign which was being installed. Councilman Spillers offered resolution and moved <br />adoption seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried, on roll call. Councilman Holmquist noted absent. <br />R E S O L U T I O N N 0 766 <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FOUR STOP 'SIGNS <br />RESOLVED that the intersections of Charter and Spring Streets, Charter and Middlefield Road, <br />Flynn and Middlefield Road, and Douglas and Middlefield Road be and they are hereby designated to <br />be stop intersections, and a stop sign of approved type and design is hereby authorized and directed <br />to be installed at each of the following locations: <br />1. On the southeast corner of Charter Street, <br />at Spring Street; <br />2. On the northwest corner of Charter Street, <br />at Middlefield Road; <br />3. On the northwest corner of Flynn at Middle- <br />field Road; <br />
