Sadler and wife, 1550 E1 Camino Real and objected to
the tannery, Maple and Birch Streets, owned by Mr. Henry Beeger. This had been
operated for a number of years, but closed down about a year ago. Mr. Beeger had
started to demolish buildings but the work had been stopped. Buildings were of old
wood and a fire hazard; there was no watchman; the lumber company would be in danger
nearby in the event of fire; also large haystacks stored around the buildings. He
further requested that the Council request the Building Inspector to investigate
and report if this condition constituted a fire hazard and stated that insurance
companies were concerned about property in adjacent area. Councilman Britschgi
thought the whole matter should have been taken up with City Manager Rolison and
moved that City Manager Rolison contact Mr. Beeger, and report back to the Council
at the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. Councilman Granger stated
he had talked with Mr. Beeger and that he was perfectly willing to order the hay
removed which he had allowed to be stored free as a favor to a friend. This was
placed on the agenda.
