Councilman Morgan moved that <br />recommendation of Real Estate Committee be accepted giving them minimum of land possible plus necessary <br />setback, seconded by Councilmai Britschgi. Motion carried. <br />PARKING SIGNS ALONG STATE HIGHWAY, EL CAMINO REAL. City Attorney Currie read an excerpt from Section 589.5 of <br />the Vehicle Code of the State of California as amended effective October 1, 1949 as follows: "Local <br />authorities may by ordinance or resolution prohibit or restrict the parking of vehicles on state high- <br />ways in their respective jurisdictions if such ordinance or resolution is first submitted to and <br />approved in writing by the Department of Public Works4 Mr.Currie thought it preferable to submit a <br />proposed parking regulation on E1 Camino Real to the Department of Public Works. Chief Wood stated <br />there were a few no parking signs on E1 Camino Real. No action was necessary by the Council. <br />PARKING FRONT OF OLD MILL FLOWER SHOP. The Traffic Fact Finding Committee formerly recommended a one hour <br />zone extsnding from games through to Broadway. The reason being that the Committee did not wish to <br />spot zone. Since a one hour zone existed in front of the flower shop the committee recommended that <br />this be again established between the Flower Shop and James if the Council did not see fit to put the <br />shole area into one hour parking between James and Broadway. Councilman Britschgi moved that report <br />of Traffic Fact Finding Committee be approved in regard to parking in front of Flower Shop to James Street, <br />seconded by Councilman Morgan andcarried. <br />REPORT OF SWIMMING POOL C0MMITTEE. CouncilmanGranger gave the following recommendations of the committee <br />which was the result of having met several times, all recommendations were subject to availability <br />of funds. <br />(1) Depth 3 to 10 ft; 822 x 422 ft. <br />(2) Depth 3 to 6 ft; 8212 x 422 ft. <br />Alternate bid on wading pool 20 x 30 ft. <br />(3) Depth 3 to 6 ft, same size and width. <br />Councilman Granger moved that the City Engineer be instructed to contact necessary architects and <br />call another committee meeting to report to Council their findings and committee will make recommen- <br />dation to Council, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />THAT NO ATTEMPT BE MADE TO OBTAIN PUBLIC HOUSING IN REDWOOD CITY until such_ <br />time that.a definite need for such housing could be proved. Council for Civic Unity had made such a <br />request. Councilman Britschgi moved approval of -recommendation, deconded by Councilman Granger and <br />carried. <br />APPOINTMENT OF ENGINEERING ASSISTAN T. Councilman Granger moved that this be placed on the agenda to give <br />time for investigation of what exist6d and granting the CityEngineer the right to request job descrip- <br />tion from Personnel Board, seconded by Councilman Holmquist and carried. <br />Mayor Werder was called out of the meeting 9.;20 PM and Councilman Britschgi acted as Chairman. <br />CONSIDERATION OF PEDDLERS LICENSEy AUCTION SALES AND °H" DISTRICT ORDINANCES, also VETERANS TAX EXEMPTION <br />were placed on agenda on motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried. <br />ORDINANCE ALAENDING ORDINANCE N0. 603, AS AMENDED BY ADDING POSITION OF POLICE CAPTAIN AND FIXING SALARY OF <br />POLICE CHIEF AT $426. Affidavit of publication ordered filed by Mayor Werder. <br />ORDINANCE 628 AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 6035, AS AMENDED, ADDING POSITION OF POLICE CAPTAIN, SALARY RANGE $315 - <br />$393 and ESTABLISHING SALARY OF POLICE CHIEF AT '$426 was offered for adoption on motion of Councilman <br />Morgan, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried on roll call.
