<br />local citizens and an effort was being made to form a Board. Attendance would not
<br />exceed 15 persons. They desired a meeting place available at 3:30'or 4:00 P. M.
<br />about once a month, subject to the direction of the City Manager and to prior uses of
<br />the Council Chambers. Councilman Swift moved that permission be granted subjeet,tq
<br />above mentioned conditions, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. i
<br />E. F: CERQUI, 506 WOODSIDE ROAD, REQUESTED RELIEF FROM RAINWATER FALLING ON HUDSON STREET;
<br />water from driveways that face on Hudson Street, runs down Hudson to the Woodside Road
<br />and then down the Woodside Road. He lives 300 feet east of Hudson Street, paid for
<br />Hudson Street assessment, now has a great deal of mud in front of his place and felt
<br />that,the water should be diverted into a storm sewer. Councilman Britschei moved
<br />that the City Engineer contact A4r. Cerqui add report back to the Council, seconded by
<br />Councilman Holmquist and carried.

<br />DENIAL OF H. SILVERSTEIN TO RESUBDIVIDE Lot 5, Block 2,
<br />Jefferson Acres into two lots. Both lots would be considerably below legal,size.
<br />required by the Ordinance. Councilman Britschgi moved approval of Planning Commission
<br />denial, seconded by Councilman'Spillers and carried.
<br />PLANNING COIJIMISSION RECOMMENDED DENIAL OF C. M. BORDERS TO RESUBDIVIDE Lot 2, Block 8,
<br />Friendly Acres No. 1. Mr. Borders protested a proposed street to the rear of.his
<br />property but still expected to.be able to subdivide his land without adequate,acces.s
<br />to the rear portion. Councilman Spillers moved approval of the Planning Commission.'s
<br />denial, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried.
<br />PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD -SUBMITTED A LETTER SIGNED BY HELEN W. MYERS, SECRETARY, stating the -
<br />heavy increased demands for Library Services for which they were understaffed and
<br />asked for adequate relief, wither to close the Library at regular intervals during,
<br />the week in order to keep the work up of each department to date, which they did not
<br />recommend, but suggested the hiring -of additional employees, two at least. The
<br />library budget was insufficient to add additional staff and asked in their letter to
<br />the City Ivianager that the matter be referred to the City Council suggesting .that they
<br />vote the necessary funds to carry the additional load for the balance of the fiscal.
<br />year. Councilman Morgan moved this be referred to the Council study meeting of
<br />Monday, January 23rd to study further, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried.
<br />The Real Estate Committee had made a study of location for new branch library,•.Coun:
<br />cilman Holmquist, chairman, had made a semi -report. This would be discussed at the:
<br />next Monday meeting also.
<br />SAN MATEO POST N0.82 AMERICAN LEGION, INVITED COUNCIL MEMBERS TO THEIR LUNCHEON AT THE
<br />BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HOTEL, SAN MATED, 12 noon, January 18th when Mr. John Reber, author
<br />of ,the Reber Plan would be the guest speaker. Luncheon 01.25 per plate. Richard
<br />O'Hara, chairman, to be notified of reservations. Administrative Assistant Miller to
<br />contact Councilmen for reservations.
<br />AUTOMATIC MERCHANDISING COMPANY, 295 Grant Road, Rt 2, Mountain View and Trans Western
<br />Company, 517 San &iateo Drive, San Iviateo.. submitted letters of protest against the
<br />$12.00 fee per year for the Cigarette machines. They claimed these were not.amuse-
<br />ment machines, and should not be considered in the amusement machine ordinance. City
<br />Attorney Currie explained that the Cigarette machines were covered under Business
<br />License Ordinance No.1.E.479 Section 80; the Amusement Machine Ordinance did not pertain
