APPLICATION FOR'USED CAR LOT PERMIT. Bourquin Motors applied for used car lot permit in <br />addition to the one at their present location. Lot was across the street from Ferris <br />Miles Company on Main Street, Arb Block 3769 Lot 9-A northerly 120 feet on Maple Street <br />Mezesville. Lot was now gravelled and ready for immediate use. They were overcrowded <br />at their present location and it was necessary to have more room for expansion. They <br />i <br />would like to use their present office one block away if this would be permitted. <br />There was some discussion as to whether or not a dealer could have two lots in differ- 4 <br />ent locations. Councilman Granger moved this be placed on the agenda for a report <br />back by the City Attorney, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried. <br />REDWOOD CITY RETAILERS, A DIVISION OF THE REDWOOD CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE planned a "Red <br />Tag" days special sales event on February 16, 17 and 18, 1950. They would like a per -.I <br />mit to string 41 x 6' cloth banners on the permanent guy wires on Broadway and Main <br />Streets. Public liability insurance would be carried during the period. They would <br />like to have the Electrical Department hang the banners, as they have the truck equip- <br />ment and man power, cost to be borne by the Redwood City Retailers. The Chamber of <br />Commerce would 'clear with the State Department of Public Roads for permission to hang <br />the banners on Main Street. Councilman Spillers moved approval, seconded by Council- <br />man Morgan and carried. Mayor Werder stated at this point that he hoped the Council <br />would never again permit anything to be painted on the sidewalks as the unsightliness <br />of such a practice remained a long time after. <br />NICOTINE FIELD, SEQUOIA HIGH SCHOOL. Mr. H. J. Lynch, Buisiness Manager of Sequoia in a <br />letter of January 31st stated it was agreeable to.continue the use of this property <br />as in the past, the City to use it as a park. Councilman Grangerts thought on re- (1 <br />taining this for continued use as a park was in line with the Cityts need for more F_ <br />parks. After discussion it was brought out that there was a need for this in the <br />athlectic program. Councilman Britschgi moved that in this event the property be <br />turned back for the school's athlectic program and if possible to be used also as in <br />the past by the public as a park, seconded by Councilman Swift and carried. <br />MR. THOMAS CUTTING, chairman of the Personnel Board advised that the hearing on the appeal <br />with reference to Mr. Morants dismissal had been continued by them. Regarding the <br />compromise suggested in the Council minutes of January 16th, the Board had been <br />advised that it did not have the authority to make such a comptomise. However, if the <br />Council wished to make a compromise along these lines, the Board would take the stand <br />that no further action was before them and that the request for an appeal on Mr. <br />Moran's dismissal had been withdrawn. City Attorney Currie referred to a letter from <br />Mr. Millington addressed to the Council offering a compromise to withdraw Ivir. Moran's <br />appeal if the City would pay one-half month's salary in settlement for his dismissing <br />his appeal. Councilman Britschgi moved that the City pay Mr. Moran one-half month's <br />salary in settlement and accept his dismissal of appeal, seconded by Councilman <br />Holmquist and carried. <br />POLICY OF GRANTING HOLIDAYS. City Manager Rolison submitted a letter to the Council stating <br />that the Cityts holiday policy had been considered by the Personnel Board and they <br />were of the opinion that the Council should determine granting of holidays to employees <br />as such was reflected in budget appropriations for salary purposes. In addition to the <br />nine legal holidays, which were recognized by the employees of all departments, it was <br />the custom to close the City Ball on Lincolnts Birthday and Columbus Day due to the <br />closing of banks and other public offices.
