City Manager Rolison stated'they.would.like a little more time to determine ability and .equipment that would be used. Bid was received of 075 from Romeo Joly. Councilman Spillers moved this be placed on agenda, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. POSITION OF CIVIL ENGINEERING ASSISTANT. City Engineer Jain thought this had been taken care of some time ago having been referred to the Personnel Board. Specifications for ,the job had been set up. Civil Engineering Aide had been set up instead of Civil Engineering Assistant and there was considerable difference in the jobs and class- ification. Councilman Granger moved that authority be granted to set up position for Civil Engineering Assistant, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. STREET IMPROVEMENTS, REESE STREET, JOHNSON STREET A11D OAK AVENUE. City Engineer Jain sub- mitted petitions for the above improvements of Reese Street between Oak Avenue and Redwood Avenue, Johnson Street between Oak Avenue and Redwood Avenue, and Oak Avenue between King Street and approximately 76 feet NE -of Reese Street. Percentage frontage petitioned 55.9E31'v and including City owned was 60.7%. As project would include two large culvert structures, the estimated cost was approximately 016.00 per front foot. It.was recommended that the City Engineer be authorized to prepare plans and specifi- cations for the assessment project and the City Auditor be authorized to advance funds for the work, cost'to be reimbursed from the assessment district. Several protested the cost of the culverts which would amount to $4500 or 05000 in order to cover the natural drainage channel for the City. Mrs. Petty Claire, Mr. Tipton, Reese Street and Mr. Fred Alerdise protested the -entire assessment to this district although they were willing to share. Councilman Holmquist stated there was a propossd bond of 0100,000 to be expended on creeks west of E1 Camino Real. Councilman-its,rhti sug- gested that this be held over until after election. If the bond issue carried, the money would be available. Councilman Britschgi moved that the City Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications as recommended, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. STREET IMPROVEMENTS, DOUGLAS AVENUE BETWEEIT SPRING STREET AND IyIIDDLEFIELD ROAD. City Engineer Jain reported that percentage of frontage petitioned was 60.4;Wo. All of the south half of the street proposed to be improved lay in the County. The County Brig- ineer had verbally advised that he preferred the City handle the entire proceedings although it would require action by the Board of Supervisors to form a joint assess- u
