City <br />Engineer Jain stated he had been requested to cl"6an up.the street. Councilman Holm- <br />quist thought the street in back of the Courthouse was just as 'bad. After discus- <br />sion Mayor Werder suggested that City Clerk Dodge advise Mr. Sorensen that the <br />Council would expect ,him to correct this situation_ immediately. <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS SIiC.GESTED THAT A PLAQUE BE GIVEN TO THE RETIRED MAYOR HILTON AS A <br />TOKEN OF HIS SERVICE TO THE CITY. He so moved, seconded by Councilman Morgan. <br />After discussion it was decided that Administrative Assistant Miller find out the <br />cost of a appropriate plaque and Councilman Morgan withdrew his second which was <br />satisfactory to Councilman Spillers, and the motion was lost for the lack of a <br />second. <br />COUNCILMAN MORGAN STATED THAT SMALLER CITIES PROVIDE RACKS FOR BICYCLES and he thought <br />there was a.need for these in Redwood City. Councilman Granger moved that this <br />point be referred to proper authorities in regard to need of racks at theatre, etc., <br />seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />CLAIMS Nos. 4694 to 4765 inclusive, in the amount of 074,395.33 were approved for <br />payment on motion of Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />AUDITOR J. J. Brophy appeared and suggested that a resolution be offered,authorizing <br />expenditure for $2500 for the Harbor Road, which .the City would later be reim- <br />bursed for from Gas Tax Funds. Councilman Granger moved that the City Engineer <br />be authorized to draw up plans on repair of Harbor Road, seconded by Councilman <br />Morgan, and carried. <br />COUNCILMAN -BRITSCHGI ASKED ABOUT $5000 on Broadway No. 3, and thought that the permit <br />for the building should not be issued until this was settled. City Attorney Currie <br />stated this was still an assessment district and the Council could take steps in <br />regard to the assessment, and that new estimates would have to be obtained as to <br />the costs. After considerable discussion, Councilman Holmquist moved that City <br />Attorney Currie be instructed to contact Attorney Wilson and report back to the <br />Council, seconded by Councilman Granger, and carried. <br />RESOLUTION No.627. Councilman Britschgi offered a resolution and moved adoption adjourning <br />the meeting in memory of Daniel R. Stafford, former mayor and member of the City <br />Council, seconded by Councilman Holmquist,- and carried on roll call. <br />R E S O L U T I O N No. 627. <br />RESOLUTION COMMEbIORATING MEi4ORY OF DAI•:IEL R. STAFFORD <br />WHEREAS,'on October 22, 1948, DANIEL R. STAFFORD passed from this life to his <br />eternal reward and it is fitting that the City Council of the City of Redwood City <br />appropriately record his long, faithful and distinguished public services in this <br />sommunity;I <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redwood <br />City that we here record the esteem and affection in which the said DANIEL R. <br />STAFFORD is and, for more than fifty (50) years, has been held by members of this <br />Council, the officers and members of this city government; that we hereby commem- <br />orate Mr. Stafford's outstanding services to this City as Clerk -Assessor, as a <br />member of the City Council, as Mayor of this City, as a member of the City Plan- <br />ning Commission, as organizer of the first Chamber of Commerce, for donating to <br />the City a large parcel of property in the west residential area for a playground <br />and fature branch library site, now known as Stafford Park, and for playing a <br />leading role for more than half a century in the City's business and residential <br />growth. <br />
