KENDALL B.•(TETE) TOWNE APPEARED,,AND REQUESTED PERMISSION TO TRANSFER THE USED CAR 65 <br />LOT from 721 E1 Camino Real to a location 75 feet north of Leonard Realty Company on <br />E1 Camino Real. When asked what he intended to do with the lot from where he would. <br />move, Mr. Towne stated that he contemplated selling it. Councilman Britschgi moved <br />that permission be granted to move the car lot, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and <br />carried. (Mr. Towne was subsequently advised that it would be necessary to secure <br />a use permit.) <br />PETITIONS TO REVOKE ZONING ON S & W CORPORATION. Mayor Werder stated that he had received <br />a phone call that attorney for petitioners could not be present at this time and <br />asked if the matter could be laid over until the next meeting. This was agreeable to <br />Mr: Menefee, Attorney for S & W. Councilman Morgan moved that this be carried on the <br />agenda until the first meeting in December, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and <br />carried. <br />INSTALLATION OF BENCHES ALONG BUS LINES. Mr. Herman H. Claus, Peninsula Seat Advertising <br />Company, appeared and stated he had presented his proposition last July. Benches <br />were of concrete and would not be placed anywhere if owners objected and advertising <br />of one firem would not be placed on bench placed in front of a competitor. $1.00 <br />per month is paid to the City on all seats carrying advertising. Mr. Claus had <br />contracts with San Mateo, Belmont and San Carlos. At present the Burlingame Council <br />was considering them. Mayor Werd'er asked for comments from either Mr. Butler, Mr. <br />Rolison, Manager, or Mr. Towne, President of the Chamber of Commerce, who were both <br />present. Mr. Towne stated that at time there was no particular local interest, and <br />merchants thought if seats were not kept up they would be unsightly. Mr. Claus <br />stated that seats were cleaned once a week. Councilman'Granger moved that this be <br />referred to merchants section of the Chamber of Commerce for further study, seconded <br />by Councilman Swift, and carried. <br />ABATEMENT OF HENRY BEEGER TANNERY AT LATHROP AND ELM. City Attorney Currie stated the <br />property was psted and this was the time set to show cause why it should not be <br />abated. Mr. Beeger appeared and stated he thought 3.4 of the plant was torn down <br />and that it would be torn down as soon as possible, that the hay was stored for a <br />friend who was removing it gradually. There was about 65 bales left, but it would <br />be out within the next two or three months, and asked for a little time. Councilman <br />Britschgi moved that an affidavit of posting and mailing be filed, seconded by Coun- <br />cilman Spillers, and carried. Councilman Britschgi moved that extension of time be <br />granted and that hearing be duly and regularly continued to the second meeting in <br />February, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE PROVIDING LOYALTY OATH. Councilman Granger moved that affidavit of <br />publication be filed, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />ORDIANACE NO. 606. Providing Loyalty oath. Councilman Granger moved the adoption of <br />the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried on roll call. <br />AWARD OF BID FOR PURCHASE OF NEW FOUR DOOR SEDAN FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. City Manager <br />Rolison recommended that award be given to the low bidder, Davies Auto Company, for <br />the purchase of Chevrolet for $1696.39 less trade-in allowance $1100.00, or $596.399 <br />as the budget provided the sum of $600. Councilman Britschgi moved that the recom- <br />mendation of City Manager Rolison be accepted, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and <br />carried. <br />
