I
64 City officials to work out hardship cases, seconded•by Councilman Morgan. Motion
carried. Councilman Granger then moved that the Mayor appoint a committee to work
out hardship cases, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. Mayor Werder
appointed Mr. Rolison and Mr. Brophy. Mr. Brophy brought up the point of transfer-
ring accounts into Doubtful Accounts. Councilman Morgan moved this be held in
abeyance until City received some satisfaction before writing off the whole amount,
seconded by Councilman Swift. It was explained that the accounts would not be written
off, but transferred from active to inactive accounts, and those collected would revert,
that permission was requested for bookkeeping procedure. Couenilman Granger so moved
seconded by Councilman Morgan, andlearried.
PLANNING COMMISSION RECO1414ENDED APPROVAL OF APPLICATION OF John Yakovenko to resubdivide
Lots 1-4 and 45 & 46, into 3 lots per attached plat. Councilman Britschgi moved —
approval, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. i
PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF APPLICATION OF Don Hirsch to resubdivide Lot 7
Block 10, Oak Knoll Manor into 2 lots, 70' x 110' and 55' x,119' respectively, per
attached plat. Councilman Britschgi moved approval, seconded by Councilman Spillers,
and carried.
PLANNING C014MISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF TENTATIVE MAP OF LAYNG-BLOMQUIST TRACT, subject
to 10 conditions. Councilman Britschgi moved approval, seconded by Councilman
Spillers, and carried.
PLANNING COMMISSION RECOM14ENDED APPROVAL OF APPLICATION OF..MARY Mac ADAMS for resubdivision
of lots 1 and 12, Block 1, Oak Knoll Manor (290 Nevada) to provide 1 lot 54.94' wide
x 55' deep, with a total area of 7,225 square feet. This was approved by them in a
letter of October let. As several people asked the City Engineer about this, the
Council did not approve at that time. Mr. Larry Wise, Advisor of the Planning Com-
mission stated that the complaint was withdrawn and was not ready for approval by the
Council. Councilman Morgan moved approval, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and
carried.
AUDITOR BROPHY SUBMITTED REQUESTS TO CORRECT 1945-49 tax roll on 5 accounts due to errors
made. Councilman Holmquist moved that authority be granted to make corrections,
seconded by Councilman :Granger, and carried.
PERSONNEL BOARD SUBMITTED RECOMMENDED REPEAL OF MARRIED WOMEN CLAUSE, Rule VIII, Section
3, amendment,of October 20, 1941. Mr. Thos W. Cutting, Chairian of the Board stated
in a letter to the Council that it was difficult to secure qualified applicants for
clerical and library positions of the City in view of the existing rule which ex-
cluded married women from employment except under very limited conditions. Neighboring
cities had no such restriction. If recommendation should not meet approval of the i
Council it was suggested that alternate suggestions be made to relieve the problem.
Councilman Spillers moved that recommendation of the Personnel Board be accepted,
seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Under discussion it was thought better not to hire
wives of husbands who worked for the City, but that those best qualified for positions
open should be chosen. At present, of the nine employed in the Library, only two
were not married. Motion was defeated 5 to 2. Councilman Morgan moved that a com-
mitt6e be appointed from the Council to work in harmony with the Personnel Board and
iron out differences on this clause, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. Motion
carried. Administrative Assistant Miller was to contact the Personnel Board, and
the committee was to meet with them as soon as possible and report back.
1
