Motion carried. <br />CONSIDERATION OF,STREET BENCHES ON BUS LINE. This had been referred to the Chamber of <br />Commerce for a recommendation to the Council. Tom Jones, Chairman, of the Redwood <br />City Retailers, submitted a report that the merchants did not object to a suitable <br />bench, but were not,in favor of advertising to be placed thereon. Mr. Herman Claus <br />of the Peninsula Seat Advertising Company and Mr. E. B. Griffith of.San Carlos had <br />presented their plans. Councilman Britschgi moved that the City issue a license to <br />Mr. Claus for benches in Redwood City, seconded by Councilman Spillers. Both had <br />seen these benches and approved them. Discussion followed and opinions of some were <br />73 <br />that the advertising would be unsightly. However, the merchants had considered bus <br />benches twice and decided against them each time. A roll call vote was taken and <br />the motion was defeated 4 to 3, Councilman Britschgi, Spillers and Swift voting in _ <br />favor of the benches. Councilman Morgan moved that this matter be considered further <br />by the Council, the Mayor to appoint a committee to work out some satisfactory method <br />whereby the people would have some seats satisfactory to all concerned, seconded by <br />Councilman Spillers, and carried. Mayor Werder appointed Councilman Morgan and <br />Spillers to report back to the Council at a later date. <br />PETITION FOR STREET IMPROVEMENT ON STANLEY STREET BETWEEN WESTGATE AND BREWSTER AVENUE <br />and on Westgate between the Alameda de las Pulgas and Hopkins Avenue. Petitions on <br />streets in Oak Knoll Manor had been checked by the City Engineer's office and it was <br />found that signatures for 66.72% of the frontage had been received. Mr. Jain recom- <br />mended that the City Engineer's office be instructed to prepare plans and specifi- <br />cations at such time as they had completed the projects alreday authorized. Coun- <br />cilman Morgan moved that the recommendation be accepted, seconded by Councilman <br />Holmquist, and carried. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF REVISED TENTATIVE MAP OF SILVER MANOR subject <br />to the previous conditions of approval as they applied to this revision. Lots 8, 9, <br />10, 11, and 12 were about 700 square feet under the required 6000 square feet'. How- <br />ever, it was agreed to consider a variance on these parcels at the proper time due <br />to the fact that the subdivider had attempted to meet as'many of the requests of <br />the Plannaing Commission as possible, which included giving up considerable land for <br />future widening. Councilman Morgan moved that recommendation be approved, seconded <br />by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. <br />PROGRESS STATEMENTS WERE SUBMITTED ON THE FOLLOWING: Fred J. Early, Jr., $47,506.29; <br />Peter Sorensen approximately roximately $36,000; Frost & Brian, $589.05. Estimates were to <br />be checked by both City and County Engineers and were authorized for payment on this <br />4 <br />condition by motion of Councilman Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Swift, and carried. <br />MAYOR WERDER WELCOMED THE LOCAL SCOUT TROUP No. 102 and their Scout Master, Mr. Fred <br />Davis. The scouts were present in the interest of civic achievement in order to <br />earn a merit badge. <br />PROTEST OF WALTER E. REMMERS, 926 Redwood Avenue, in regards to refusal of Inspector from <br />the City Engineer's office to pass on finished sidewalk. Mr. Remmers stated the <br />sidewalk had a rough trowel finish and because of this he was refused lights or gas, <br />without putting up a bond until the sidewalk was corrected. City Engineer Jain <br />claimed this was not an acceptable rough finish job, and that a broom finish would <br />
