be better, the sidewalk was on City property and should bome up to requirements.
In most instances check deposited as assurance that work would meet requirements
of the City was simply held until approved and returned to the maker. Mayor
Werder was of the opinion this could, be straightened out the following day. Coun-
cilman Granger moved that Mr. Remmers deposit the check and that he be granted
services of, light and gas, seconded by Councilman Swift. Mr. Jain had made the sug-
gestion to Mr. Remmers before, Thanksgiving but he had not returned. J. Davenroy, 125 Eaton Villa Place.
Mr. Davenroy objected to this connection being made by the City to this property
located in the County, as there was no payment on Mr. Valenti's part to the County,
City or other property owners. City Attorney Currie stated the City owned the sewer
and could let anyone connect. It was explained this was a hardship case and the
Council had authorized the connection for this reason. Mr. Valenti had agreed to
pay his pro -rata share. Question arose as to how this should be collected and how
it could, if it were possible, be paid to the other property owners. On motion of
Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, City Attorney Currie was to
check on this and report back. Motion carried.
THERESA BURGMEIER, 1603 Jefferson Avenue, appeared and presented a water sample; and, asked
what could be done to correct this condition. Mr. Winter, Water Superintendent,
was called upon to throw some light on the situation. He stated that others had
presented worse samples, that lines were flushed from last Thursday through Sunday
in an effort to clear the water. However, this would give only temporary relief
as the water was active. He explained that Dr. Cook took 15 samples per month,
filters had been suggested, and the problem had been taken up with Mr. Medbury,
Engineer, in -the San Francisco Water Department. 41r. Medbury had an idea of instal-
ling a line plant across the Bay which would correct this condition. Menlo Park
and Palo Alto were having the same problem. Experts had gone over the situation.
Shorter lines had given the most trouble. It was suggested that the League of
California Cities be contacted, and the Public Utilities Commission. On motion of
Councilman Granger proper authorities were to prepare a letter to the League of
California Cities and report back at the next meeting, seconded by Councilman
Spillers, and carried.
MRS. ROSARIO TUREK, SUNNYVALE, ROUTEI, Box 4406, appeared in regards to condemnation by
the City of Lots 16 and 17, Block 42, Central Park No.2. These were 25 feet lots.
An offer of $500 had been made verbally by Mr. McCarthy, who was City Attorney at
the time; Mrs. Turek preferred a trade as the property had been a gift. Since then
the property had been condemned and she had been offered $400. She asked that the
original offer be made plus $25 to cover taxes, etc. Mr. Perrin, City Collector,
stated the lots were unimproved. Councilman Britschgi moved that the matter be
referred again to the Real Estate Committee for their further recommendation, sec-
onded by Councilman Morgan, and carried.
MR. M. W. JEFFERY, 132+ E1 Camino Real, disputed his garbage bill, which h„d been sent
him the past two months, as he had no garbage can.
