AN APPEAL TO ORDER REMOVAL OF'RUG BUSINESS, from 730`" Katherine Avenue, by Mr. Wayne
Millington, Attorney. Mr. Millington protested that Mr. John Hartley had not been
properly heard and was entitled to a hearing before the planning_Commission according
to Zoning Ordinance No. 600, Section 22.2. City Attorney Currie stated the Zoning
Ordinance did not apply that a business license was being considered. The opinions
were divided in regard to permitting him to operate until the expiration of the lease
in April 1952 if neighbors did not object and Mr. Millington stated they did not now
object. Councilman Werder asked for an opportunity to contact the people in the area
personally. Councilman Morgan moved this be carried on the agenda for weeks, seconded
by Councilman Werder and carried.
ORDINANCE FOR ANNEXATION OF KORAL PROPERTY. Councilman Royer
moved adoption of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Werder and carried on roll call.
Councilman Spillers noted absent.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN'S REPORT ON PROPOSED REPAIR OR REBUILDING OF BRIDGES. Mr. Jain made
an investigation and report on the Bradford Street Bridge. It would cost $750 for
material, $600 for labor to make it usable and rideable and should it require re -
flooring it would take another $500. The total cost would be between 1600 and
02000 and it would be difficult to ascertain until work was started on reconstruction.
Sidewalks on each side would reduce the load to half its maximum, if no sidewalk was
constructed it would be taking a chance on the double loading unless the piles, etc.
were investigated. It was thought this would be a useless expenditure if the free-
way went through, as this bridge had been closed off one or two years. Councilman
Werder moved that this be dropped from the agenda, seconded by Councilman Jones.
Mayor Britschgi state if the Broadway No. 3 project failed this would have to be
reconsidered. Motion carried.
FIRE CHIEF LODI'S REPORT ON REMOVAL OF POLES AND EgUIPMENT FROM JEFFERSON AVENUE. The
Chief had contacted the Pacific Gas and Electric Company this date for an estimate
and reported that they would have it in another day or two. Two poles in question
on Broadway would not be removed until one of the consumers would have underground
service.
FURTHER DISCUSSION ON CONCRETE BUS BENCHES. Mayor Britschgi contacted Attorney James
11
uu
