This VJAS a request for transfer from Morris <br />T,iebev from Edgewood & El Camino Real, Atherton. Mr. Thomas Tuite appeared rep- <br />resenting the merchants on Main Street and protested issuance of this license. The <br />T <br />erchants had filed a petition with the Board of Equalization. Councilman Granger <br />moved that the Council go on record with a protest to the Board of Equalization, <br />seconded by Councilman Jones. Opinions differed on this request, some thought there <br />were enough liquor stores in Redwood City and the number should be controlled, and <br />others that it was not right to attempt to keep another out of business. On roll call <br />the vote tied, Councilmen Herkr_er, Morgan and Royer voting No. Councilman Spillers <br />noted absent. Councilman Jones moved that a committee be appointed to look into the <br />matter and report back next meeting, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried. Idayor <br />Britschgi appointed Councilmen Royer and Jones to contact merchants for their opinion <br />and report back. <br />pLAh2Ih,TG COIJMISSICN REOPENED HEARING AUGUST 14th, ON PRO20SED NEW BUILDING LII6ES ON VALOTA <br />ROAD BF,%EEN ROOSEVELT AND WOODSTDE ROAD. About 50 persons protested the new building <br />lines on the assumption that the City was going to improve the street without a <br />petition from the propety owners. Planning Commission explained only vacant property <br />was presently affected by.new building line and improved property was not affected un- <br />til such time that improvements mre petitioned for by the property owners or action <br />was initiated by the City Council. The Planning Commission recommended that lines be <br />set to prevent any additional development along Valota Road which would make eventual <br />improvement even more difficult. Mayor Britschgi explained it was not the intention <br />to work a hardship on anyoneg .the present step was proposed keeping in mind the traffic <br />circulation on this street in the best interests of all in the City. A committee repre- <br />senting residents on Valota Road would meet with the City Engineer Jain and the Council <br />and recommendation would be submitted to them for their approval before any action <br />would be taken by the Council. The street was proposed to be 50 or 52 ft in width. <br />Councilman Morgan moved that the written protest be made part of the minutes, seconded <br />by Councilman Jones and carried.
