As a deal was pending <br />I� ! <br />with Dr. Otis who lived on the corner, it was moved by Councilman Granger that re- <br />subdivision be approved on recommendation of Planning Commission and also carried on <br />agenda until the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. <br />JOHN SULLIVAN, 105 ST FRANCIS, PROTESTED CONDITION OF ST FRANCIS, HARDIFIG & SAPPHIRE PROJECT, <br />as the residents did not have access to driveways. The contractor, L.C. Smith, was to <br />take care of this the following day and if it was not done proper authorities were to <br />take necessary action. Councilman Spillers hoped another job would never be started in <br />the winter. <br />i'I;� <br />`i CITY ATTORNEY REPORT ON PROPOSED ORDINANCE COVERING BROKEN SIDEWALKS BY CONTRACTORS. Palo <br />Alto Building Code was checked and provided for a deposit on the part of the contractor <br />I <br />before the work was begun in the amount of 020 for each 50 ft. job to be cleaned up <br />to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent, deposit to be refunded on com- <br />pletion of work. If not done by the contractor the City performed the work and deduct- <br />ed the cost. Councilman Spillers moved that ordinance be prepared for introduction <br />lj I' <br />. at the next Monday (February 26th meeting, to be adopted the following I,Ionday <br />and <br />:af' I <br />}. effective on date of adoption, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT REgUEST TO USE COUNCIL CHAT.IBERS 3 MEETINGS, from 9AI✓1 to 12 AM, on <br />April 20, June 15 and August 17) Friday in each instance. Letter was signed by Irene <br />D Sarmo, Health Education Consultant, Department of Public Health and Welfare. Council- <br />man Granger moved that permission be granted if it did not in any xray interfere with <br />present activities, seconded by Councilman Royer. The City has been paying up to 30 days pay to National Guardsmen and Reser- <br />1vists who (1) aro ordered on an encampment for not more than 30 days during a calendar <br />y <br />year; and who T <br />(2) have served the City for at least a year. Under a recent Attorney <br />General s ruling, the City would also be obligated to pay them for 30 days at the time <br />they are called to active duty providing that no such payments shall exceed 30 days <br />! 4' jIi I'';'•� gg° during the fiscal year. The question of draftees and enlistees has been left to local <br />policy. After study and discussion with the Council Civil Service Committee the Board <br />recommended this <br />policy be extended to cover any employee entering active duty with <br />the armed forces. Three men had been called and it was recommended that this p <br />rovision <br />be made retroactive to June 25 <br />, 1950. Councilman Jones moved that recommendation be <br />j approved, seconded by Councilman Spillers. This was encompassed in the present Salary <br />j�l�ld.,ij <br />
