However the rear sheds <br />and LLL° shaped portion of mortuary building should be demolished. None of the <br />buildings can ever be made to comply structurally in fire Zone #1, but under the k <br />it alteration" clause of the Building Code certain restrictions are lifted to allow <br />for percentage repair on this type of structure. Councilman Royer moved, seconded <br />by Councilman Herkner that the property owner be notified that the Council would <br />proceed in accordance with the report of these :departments as outlined, send them a <br />copy of report on recommendations of department heads, thus giving the owner an <br />opportunity to indicate his willingness to comply before posting the buildings. <br />hJotion carried. Attorney Jas Fitxpatrick, who represented NLr. Franklin at a pre- <br />vious meeting, was present and thought it would not be necessary to post the build - <br />that Mr. Franklin would bring them up to standard. <br />LETTER L. C - SMITH REQUEST 30 DAY EXTENSION ALAMEDA CONTRACT, because of condition of <br />Leek ; surface after rains, and the neglect of the Public Utilities to remove poles <br />its. giving certain electrical service to customers nearby. City Engineer recommended <br />the extension be alloyed inasmuch as the number of working days in the contractMTY <br />~1 <br />ire were less than the number usually granted. Councilman Spillers moved that the <br />be 3O day extension be granted on recommendation of City Engineer, seconded by Council - <br />their man Royer. City Engineer stated• that the contractor was still using one crew for <br />Ly would four jobs, and he thought all of the sidewalk could have been in by now. Motion <br />Luld have carried, Councilman Granger passing his vote. <br />Lair- PERSONNEL BOARD RECOMIti4EN'DATION SALARY INCREASE. The Board had met with the Council <br />Lrd Civil Service Committee and with representatives from each employee group.,Among <br />Es- factors considered, the following stand out: <br />Lut, (1) The San Francisco Bureau of Labor Statistics cost of living index has risen <br />X. 8.3o since June 15, 1948, the approximate date of Redwood City's salary equalization <br />survey. <br />(2) A one step increase plus the $10 already granted January 1, 1951 would be within <br />the 101 authorized by the Wage Stabilization Board for salary increases since <br />January, 1950 - <br />Based on these and other findings, following recommendations were made: <br />;er (1) That the Council grant a one step increase to every employee of the City includ- <br />Leet ing the Police Department effective July 1, 1951: <br />44 <br />;and- (2) That the request of the Police Department for a reduction of work week from <br />;onsid- to 40 hours be denied, since this in itself would be a 101 increase in pay and would <br />be not be permissabe under current wage stabilization directives on top of salary <br />law increase already granted in January or that proposed; <br />(3) That the Personnel Board be given an opportunity of continuing its study•on <br />uniform allowances as a matter separate and apart from the salary question. Council- <br />man Granger reported Committee was in agreement with the findings of the Board <br />dealing only with those under Civil Service., Councilman Royer moved approval of <br />
