BHisuri
City of Redwood City
Mayor of the
i'
F
ATTEST:
RALPH S. DODGE
Clerk of the City of Redwood City
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution
was duly and regularly passed by the city council
of the City of Redwood City at a regular meeting
thereof held June 19th, 1950 -
RALPH S. vtillGb;
Clerk of the City of Redwood City
CITY ENGINEER REQUEST FOR POLICY ON RECONSTRUCTION OF ASPHALT AND DIRT GUTTERS. Many
complaints had been received about policy of resurfacing streets without recon-
struction of gutters. This had proven almost impossible and would be uneconomical.
The only practical answer to the problem would be for the Council to order the
formation of an area -wide assessment district to provide for the construction of
v
concrete gutters over all those streets where none now existed in the City Engineerls
Opinion. Various other cities were establishing such assessment districts. City r
Manager and Engineer had an area in mind, but this was to be considered at an infor-j
mal meeting at the suggestion of the Mayor and more facts and figures presented to
the Council.
ACCEPTANCE OF DEEDS FOR'EASEMENT FROM H. A. BEEGER FOR STORM AND SANITARY SEWERS ALONG
Bayshore Freeway near Chestnut for Bayshore interceptor sewers. City Clerk was
authorized to accept deed on motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilman 1
Jones and carried.
i
BID ON LAMP CONTRACT. Specifications were set up with the intention of buying longer
life lamps.,and cutting down time for maintenance work as well as reducing cost of {
lamps. Previously purchased lamps had 2000 hour rating, this year's specifications
were set up for 4000 hour rating. The chart was attached showing comparison costs.
Longer life lamps cost approximately 50% more than the conventional lamps, but only
half as many lamps would have to be purchased, allowing a saving of 25% in cost of I
lamps alone. The intention was not to eliminate anyone from the bid but a matter
of saving in labor. This was the Fire Chief's recommendation concurred in by the
City Manager. Lamps would come from New Jersey, and there was some objection that
no one locally would be able to bid. As there was a month's supply on hand it was
moved by Councilman Granger that action be deferred on recommendation at this time,'
seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
MR. SYDNEY D. HERKNER ENTERED THE MEETING AND WAS ADKED TO COME FORWARD AND TAKE HIS
OATH OF OFFICE having been appointed a member of the Council earlier in the evening.
City Clerk Pro -tem Miller administered the oath of office and Mr. Herkner was
welcomed by Mayor Britsehgi and took his seat with the Council.
RESOLUTION No. 888 of Preliminary Determination Broadway -Marshall Street and vicinity
Improvement District.
