r <br />,1 <br />X14. <br />UESTIONED IrTETHOD OF RECENT STREET WORK PERFORMED BY City Forces and <br />COUNCILMAN GRANGER Q <br />moved that local contractors be invited in to talk this matter over with the City <br />Manager and City Engineer, if this was in order, seconded by Councilman Spillers <br />and carried. Called attention of Councilmen to investigate ,end of Whipple in DenoltT <br />tact, <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS HAD RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM OLE OLESON, CIRCUS WAS PLANNING TO APppAR <br />IN TOWN JUNE 28, 29 and 30 and the rodeo people (PCA) was asking that Council give <br />them some protection from this competition. Councilman Spillers moved that City <br />Collector contact City Attorney when circus application was received, seconded by <br />Councilman Herkner and carried. Councilman Herkner thought that circus should bein- <br />formed of the feeling of the Council that a different date should be selected by them <br />as soon as possible so that the circus could make other arrangements. <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS CRITICIZED THE TRIBUNE FOR LACK OF SUFFICIENT NEWS COVERAGE ON THE <br />OPENING OF THE SWIMMING POOL. ' Councilman Jones said he felt that it was the function <br />of the Recreation Department to inform the press of this type of event. <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS SUGGESTED THAT A COMMITTEE BE APPOINTED TO WORK WITH THE RECREATION <br />COMMISSION ON MISS SNYDER'S REPORT, no second. Councilman Herkner said that the <br />Recreation Commission had asked that they be allowed to study this matter by them- <br />selves and he felt that they should be given the first opportunity. <br />COUNCILMAN MORGAN WAS ANXIOUS THAT CHARTER STUDY COMIatITTEE RECOHMENDATION BE MADE. City <br />Attorney advised that Committee had turned information over to him and he was pre- <br />paring report for Council's consideration and it was expected that this would be ready <br />by September. <br />COUNCILMAN JOPTES ASKED THAT MR. BROPHY GIVE CONSIDERATION TO THE INSURING OF ENGINEER- <br />ING INSTRUMENTS AND OTHER VALUABLE CITY EQUIPMENT WHEN USED IN THE OFFICE AND WHEN <br />TRANSMITTED OUTSIDE THE CITY HALL BY AUTOMOBILE. <br />COUNCILMAN JONES STATED THAT HE WAS NOT TOO HAPPY ABOUT THE 30 DAY EXTENSION TO L C 5 <br />SMITH ON THE ALAIaEDA PROJECT, that project was not proceeding quickly enough and that <br />contractor should be prodded. Councilman Granger moved that communication be addressed <br />to smith indicating that Council was not satisfied with progress of,Alamed project and <br />that Council did not anticipate granting any further extensions on this, seconded by <br />Councilman Jones and carried. Councilman Herkner further moved that City Engineer <br />prepare progress reports for the Council on all four jobs before the next Council <br />meeting, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried.. <br />MAYOR BRITSCHGI STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN CRITICIZED BECAUSE NO FURTHER ACTION HAD BEEN TAIM' <br />ON THE CHURCH MATTER. On the question it was the Council's understanding that the <br />Ministerial Association was to gather material for their study and report back to the <br />Council through the Planning Commission. <br />CLAIMS NOS 5328 to 5449 inclusive in the amount of X; a ent <br />53,171.18 were approved for p 3'm <br />on motion of Councilman Iuiorgan, seconded by Councilman Spillers. Councilman Herkner <br />asked if the bill for weed abatement was included., Mr. Brophy stated that pa3ntent <br />was in this group of claims and brought the weed abatement payments to 40%.
