G J Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Morgan, City Attorney Currie was directed to prepare the necessary ordinance substantially the same as the County Ordinance and repealing our present pound ordinance, such service to commence on January 1, 1952. Motion carried. FURTHER REPORT ON BID OPENING ON SALE OF SCRAP MATERIALS. Pair. Jain advised that he had been informed that prices on original bid for scrap material were considered as too low stating further that he had received an informal bid at a higher price. Mayor Britschgi suggested holding off the sale of this material for a time in an effort to secure a better price. On motion of Councilman Morgan,, seconded by Coun- cilman Jones, bids were ordered rejected to be readvertised at a later date, also the City Manager be authorized to advertise. Motion carried. Councilman Granger suggested turning over to the Civil Defense a letter recently received from the Division of Highways regarding survey of scrap materials in this area. AUTHORIZE CITY CLERK TO ACCEPT DEEDS. City Clerk Dodge was authorized to accept deeds of Stambaugh Street Sewer Project Area on'motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. AU`IHORIZE CITY CLERK TO ACCEPT DEED FROM CARL WOOD, POPLAR AVENUE EXTENSION. City Clerk Dodge was authorized to accept this deed on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Granger, and carried. CITY MANAGER ROLISGN REPORTED ON REINSTALLATION OF "CLIMATE BEST" SIGN AT FIVE POINTS stating that the Shell Oil Company had submitted license agreement covering location of this sign on their premises at Five Points. • CITY MANAGER ROLISON REPORTED INFORMAL BID TO PAINT "CLIMATE BEST" SIGN NORTH OF CITY ENTRANCE. City Manager Rolison advised he had received a bid of $200 to cover this work. CITY MANAGER ROLISO'N STATED FURTHER HE HAD RECEIVED A BID to install an 8" doublefaced porcelain enamel Neon sign at Fifth Avenue for $248.25. COUNCILMRAN MORGAN OFFERED RESOLUTION No.1181 and moved its adoption transferring the sum of $450 from Unbudgeted Reserve to cover these two items, seconded by Council- man Royer and carried on roll call. Councilman Spillers noted absent. LETTER FROM PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION regarding Pacific Gas & Electric Company's application for a rate increase, ordered filed. LETTER FROM CITY OF STOCKTON REQUESTING CONTRIBUTION OF $200 towards hiring experts to oppose the Pacific Gas & Electric Company's application for rate increase, was ordered filed on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. LETTER FROM L. C. SMITH REGARDING BROADWAY -NATIONAL AVENUE JOB, in which he requested payment of 1-1/2¢ per square foot for grading the area between the curb and property line and which had .been denied by the Council at previous Council meeting. Mr. Jain stated he had checked with his inspector who advised that L. C. Smith's foreman had agreed that no charge would be made for this additional work. Councilman Herkner suggested that Mr.. Jain so inform Mr. Smith and that a copy of his letter be made a part of the record. On motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Granger L. C. Smithis letter was ordered -filed. Motion carried. CLAIM OF H. E. MCNAUGHT for alleged damages to auto was rejected and referred to the insurance carrier on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Jones, and carried.
