COUNCILMAN JONES REQUESTED A REPORT FROM THE BUILDING INSPECTOR as to the present condition of the old Franklin -Crowe Mortuary buildings on Middlefield Road. LETTER FROM THE PORT MANAGER M. C. McCarl requesting a meeting between the Council and the Port Commission to discuss: (1) Proposed port expansion and means of financing such expansion, (2) Proposed charter amendments pertaining to the Port Department as recommended by the citizens' committee, was read. It was decided to meet with the Port Commission Wednesday evening, February 6th at the City Hall. LETTER FROM THE PORT OF REDWOOD CITY EXPRESSING APPRECIATION of the appreciation for the sentiments of the Council expressed in Resolution No. 1191. Communication filed. CO&1:IUNICATION FROM THE NAVY DEPARTMENT, ASSISTANT INSPECTOR OF NAVAL MATERIAL, 533 Middle field Road, requesting that space for parking of six automobiles be granted in front of their office building and also that they be permitted to mark the parking area "U. S. NAVY PARKING ODiLY". On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Herkner, request was denied and City Clerk Dodge was directed to advise them of this action, also to explain that such an action of the Council would be unfair to other organizations in this area. DISCUSSION FOLLOWED REGARDING VACANT LAND between Jefferson Avenue and the Creek and it was thought that possibly an agreement could be intered into with owners, Tacoma Mill Company, whereby this area could be levelled off and used for parking. COUNCILMEN MORGAN AND SPILLERS retired from the meeting. CITY MANAGER ROLISON STATED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF LEASING a parcel of land belonging to the State at 'Bayshore and National Avenue for use of Corporation Yard. On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Herkner, City Manager Rolison was authorized to execute necessary lease covering this property. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 1206 AUTHORITY TO DESTROY RECORDS. City Attorney Currie stated that under the provisions of Section 34090 of the Government Code of the State of California destruction of all water connection ledger sheets and payment stubs dated prior to January 1, 1947 could be destroyed. Councilman Herkner offered resolution and moved adoption, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried on roll call. Councilmen Morgan, Royer, and Spillers noted absent. COUNCILMAN HERKNER COMMENTED ON THE CURB AND REFLECTOR SIGNAL AT BROADWAY AND MAIN STREET in front of the First National Bank calling attention to recent accidents at this point. Councilman Granger suggested the possibility of flasher type signals. Councilman Granger moved that the matter be referred to the Traffic Fact Finding Committee, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. COUNCILMAN JONES CALLED ATTENTION TO THE "UNCOBLECTABLE ACCOUNTS" included in Uhlenberg Company's Audit Report. City Collector Perrin will prepare a report explaining the reasons why these items are considered uncollectable.
