4152 Mrs. M. Salandra, 918 - 10th Avenue, complained about condition of sidewalks also low spot in street in front of her property. She claimed further that the contrac- tor had damaged trees in front of her property. Mrs. Gladys Bush, 9�4 - 10th Avenue, stated that conditions of sidewalk had caused accidents to two children and one adult who tripped and fell in that area. Mr. White, 15th Avenue, spoke regarding liability on the part of the owner in con- nection with accidents caused by condition of sidewalks. Mr. C. C. Brackeen, 1085 - 10th Avenue, spoke regarding safety feature. In answer to question of Councilman Granger as to what could be done to improve the condition,, City Engineer Jain stated that black asphalt could be used as had been done in all parts of the City, Councilman Spillers commented on the fact that most of the protests appeared to be concerning the sidewalks in the 900 block on 10th Avenue. City Engineer Jain stated he had been willing to try out black asphalt program in order to go along with the safety suggestions as offered. General Contractor Peter Sorensen, stated that in his opinion part of the trouble was due to the unusual wet weather, the job in his opinion having been very success- fully done, there having been no accidents and no one got hurt. City Clerk Dodge then read the written protests as follows: 1. Mr. Milton B. Engel, 1148 Fifth Avenue. 2. Mrs. Dorothy V. Roachell, 111 Marsh Road. 3- Mrs. Ernest BT. Black, 968 Tenth Avenue. At this point City Engineer Jain explained the assessment procecure method of assessing drainage by square foot basis, curb, gutter and paving by lineal foot and curb returns and sidewalk returns on quarter block assessments. Domenic Tringali, 10114. Haven Avenue, protested the method of charging for drainage program which he claimed was of no value to him personally. Mr. Larry Balock, 3308 Page Street, requested that something be done to handle the drainage from the Taft School which is throwing considerable water onto his property The Mayor explained that the Council was to meet with the School authorities in the near future and they would attempt to work something out to correct this condition. Written protests, continued: 5. Mr. & Mrs. William Huhnstock, 14.56 Fourth Avenue. It was agreed that the City would dump a truckload of dirt to fill the area between curb and gutter. 6. Mr. Maurice J. Creevan, 1165 Marsh Road, asked what could be done to provide sidewalks in this area. On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Spillers City Engineer will prepare preliminary petition Mr. Cleveland will circu- late in his areas. Motion carried. 7. Mr. Thomas F. Wirth, 3591 Hoover Street. 8. Mr. Fete Taylor, 1081 19th Avenue. Mr. Youngblutt addressed the Council stating that in his opinion the job was very satisfactory and completed at a reasonable price. 9.
