QUESTION OF 194+ BOND MONEY" FOR THE' PURPOSE" OF BRIDGES was asked by Councilman Spillers. <br />Oxford was mentioned, also Gordon and Redwood Avenue. City Engineer Jain explained <br />that $2500 only could be used for each bridge and only for those specified for re- <br />placement, new bridges were not included. More wooden bridges could be built, but <br />not concrete. In the Central Park area bridges cost 03600. City Engineer Jain was <br />to report back on this with reference to fixing some of the bridges. <br />CLAIMS Nos. 2924 to 3045 inclusive in the amount of $490201.36 were approved for payment <br />on motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />COUNCIL ADJOURNED on motion of Councilman Spillers in honor of Councilman Holmquist, <br />seconded by Councilman Werder and carried. <br />RICHARD D. Brophy, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain. Councilman Spillers noted absent. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES. Councilman Werder moved approval of minutes of regular meeting May <br />15th as mailed, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried:. <br />MR. PAUL JONES, APPOINTEE TO THE COUNCIL upon resignation of Councilman Holmquist, was <br />sworn in. by City Clerk Dodge. He was welcomed by Mayor Britschgi on behalf of the <br />Council having been their unanimous choice. Mr. Jone hoped to serve to the best of <br />his ability. <br />RESOLUTION No. 877. PROPOSED INITIATIVE MEASURE EXEMPTING PERSONAL PROPERTY FRONT TAXATION. <br />'Councilman Royer reported that he had met with the City Manager and the City Attorney <br />had prepared a resolution urging that the personal property taxes remain as such. <br />The resolution was read by the City Clerk, Ralph Dodge, urging citizens not to sign <br />petition to put this measure on the ballot. Councilman Werder offered resolution <br />and moved adoption, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried on roll call. Council- <br />man Spillers noted absent. <br />4 <br />RESOLUTION No, 877. <br />OPPOSING PROPOSED INITIATIVE MEASURE EXEMPTING PERSONAL PROPERTY <br />FROM TAXATION <br />WHEREAS, an initiative petition is being circulated to place before circulated <br />to place before the voters of the State of California in November a constitutional <br />amendment to exempt personal property from the assessment rolls; and <br />WHEREAS the Council of Redwood City desires to go on record as opposing this <br />Proposed initiative petition; <br />NOW, THEREFORE,, IT IS RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY as follows: <br />1. That the citizens of Redwood City are hereby urged to refuse to sign <br />Petitions asking to place this special privilege tax exemption measure on the ballot. <br />2. That all voters of Redwood City are urged to reject the proposal to <br />exempt personal property from taxation inasmuch as the passage of said measure <br />would threaten the solvency of the City of Redwood City. <br />3. That copies of this resolution shall be mailed by the Clerk to State Senator <br />7 <br />11 8 <br />
