City Engineer Jain stated that if the rainy seasons start before this pro- <br />ject is finished then we would be in trouble because the cofferdam would have to <br />be opened, and the work stopped. <br />Councilman Royer asked that a letter be written to the contractor telling him the <br />amount of time left and the danger involved if the rains set in. City Engineer <br />Jain stated that he has already told them about this matter. Councilman Granger <br />again stated that the Insurance Company should be notified of their liability. He <br />made an amendment to the motion that the City Attorney review the contract and then <br />the insurance company be notified of the situation, seconded by Councilman Spillers <br />and carried. <br />PROGRESS PAYMEFT NO. 1 TO CARL N. SWENSON CO., INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,503.00, REDWOOD <br />CREEK CHANNEL IMPROVEMENT, PARKING DISTRICT NO. 1. City Engineer Jain stated the <br />above sum was all the money they have earned as of August 1st on this job, 50% <br />of the time has been used up. Councilman Royer moved approval of payment, seconded <br />by Councilman Jones and carried. <br />LETTER FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION IN REGARD TO THE MATTER OF THE BOUSKOS BROS. TOWER. <br />In their letter, the Planning Commission stated that the matter has been settled <br />to the apparent satisfaction of all concerned and that Bouskos Bros. have agreed <br />to cut fifteen feet off the tower, making a total height of forty-five feet. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM MRS. 0. C. VIGIL, 2014 GOODWIN AVENUE, was read by the Clerk wherein <br />Mrs. Vigil asked permission to close Goodwin Avenue to traffic from Virginia Street <br />to Truman Street on August 28, 1955 from the house of 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for the <br />purpose of holding an annual block picnic and party. <br />Captain Faulgtich stated that he had no objections from a traffic standpoint. <br />Councilman Spillers moved approval, seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR. The Clerk read the letter wherein it <br />was stated that our letter of July 29th concerning the freeway south of the San <br />Carlos border was being referred to the Director of the State Department of Public <br />Works for attention and further reply. <br />MAYOR HERKNER stated that bids for the Memorial Building will be opened on Thursday <br />evening at 8:00 p.m. in the City Managerts office.
