The merchants having places of business located in
the 2000 block on Broadway (23 signatures) petitioned to have the entire street blocked
off to vehiclur traffic in order to speed up the work so that Broadway can be permanent-
ly reopened tovehicular traffic on both sides of the s treat.
4fter discussion about the traffic problem, Councilman Spillers moved acceptance of the
petition and blocking of the 2000 block of Broadway, seconded by Councilman Britschgi,
Mr. Brock, representing Carl N. He stated further that it would also.be a safety measure.
Councilman Granger was of the opinion that signs should be put up to direct the traffic.
It was suggested that the street be blocked immediately. Motion carried. a
CODIFICATION OF ORDINANCES. City Attorney Currie stated that there was $1,500 set up in the
budget to take care of this work. He asked permission to rehirq the_ man who was doing
the codification and bring the ordinances up to date so that they could be printed,
preferably loose leaf form. Mr. Currie will try to get the most he can for the least
amount of money. Permission granted.
USE PERMITS GRANTED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION:
1. In his letter
Mr. Spinas stated that ordinarily this could be cared for by the regular.school traffic
patrol, but since there will be no children above fourth grade inthe school this year,
it is not legally possible to establish a patrol there. After much discussion, Councilman
Spillers moved that this be brought up before the Traffic Fact Finding Committee for
their consideration. No action was tqken on this motion and after discussion, Councilman
Granger moved that the City Manager contact the school authorities and have them put a
guard at the school, seconded by Councilman .Britschgi. This was followed by a dis-
cussion in which Councilman Britschgi suggested that the Traffic Fact Finding Committee
make a quick check and then, if necessary, the City Manager hire a school crossing
guard. Councilman Royer then amended the motion, subject to the final findings of the
Traffic Study meeting. This was followed by discus.si.on in regard to financial help
from the school and a possible Grand Jury investigation. Councilman Stout was in favor
of the amendment and added that the City Manager should hire a school crossing guard
if the school will not go along with the suggestion.
