The Board wrote to the School Board and
the School Board replied that they will give consideration to any request which is
received from the Library Board in regard to a branch library. It was the opinion
of the Board of Education that the Library Board should select'a specific site and
then make a proposal to the School Board for its use by the City for library purposes.
The Clerk read the letter written to the School Board by the secretary of the
Library Board wherein the proposed that a branch library be established at the
Roosevelt School, in an area approximately 90 feet square, facing on Euclid.
Councilman Britschgi was of the opinion that this matter should be brought up before
the Councilmembers and a study meeting be held with the Library Board before any-
thing final
is done
in
regard to
this
matter.
This was followed
by
general discus-
sion a fter w
hich it
was
decided
that
this will
be brought up at
the
Wednesday night
study meeting.
Councilman Britschgi stated that the block signs on the 2300 block of Roosevelt do not
agree with the house numbers. This matter was turned over to the City Engineer for
correction.
Councilman Britschgi brought up the subject of complaints about the gravel being thrown
up on the sidewalks on Beech Street. He was of the opinion that something should
be done with this street, perhaps topped with oil and screened. The City Engineer
replied that if this were done there were a few other streets in the same neigh-
borhood which would require the same treatment. This was followed by general
discussion in which Councilman Granger asked that it go on record that the Council
has been made aware of the situation and that the people should be made aware that
a petition should be circulated to have Beech Street fixed, seconded by Councilman
Britschgi and carried.
Councilman Spillers stated that both he and Councilman Royer had met with Red Morton
in regard to the present situation at Hawes Park. $2,500 would dig the trenches
in which to put the conduit before the lights are installed. If this is done now
then everything will be ready for spring. Councilman Royer stated that there I
wouldn't be any holdup in the matter if the money could be authorized so that the
work could be started. This brought up a discussion in regard to the price the City
would have to pay for the piece of property owned by the City of San Francisco.
To date the '.City Attorney has been unable to Find out just what the cost is going
to be. After further dicussion, Councilman Hoyer moved that the matter be held
i
