Attorney for the residents in the area.involved..- He .stated_that.the Council ha$ granted
the use permit with the stipulation..that-the-station.should.not interfere with the TV.
and radios in the carea. Their
first letter was not ,satisfactory. but..the. second-.let.te.r, .waa..satisfactory., The City Clerk
read the following letter:
"Dear Mr. Currie:
j Your letter of October 18, 1955, indicated some concern over the possibility
1 that the proposed substation installation on Valota Road might be a source of rood
i radio and television interference and noise.
We have many similar substation installations located in residential areas, and
E our experience has been that they do not cause radio or television interference.
to be certain that the equipment which will be installed on Valota Road will not Pd
j' cause radio or television interference, we have had our Communication Engineers irrie
i make a thorough investigaticnof similar equipment installed at out Menlo Sub-
station located on the Alameda de las Pulgas at Ashton Avenue. The result of
this investigation indicates clearly that this equipment does not cause inter- a
ference, and we are confident that the new installation on Valota Road will not lid
interfere with radio or television reception.
i We do not represent that the substation will be absolutely noiseless. The
equipment to be installed will produce a 60 cycle hum of very low intensity.
'! This low intensity hum is inherent in alternating current equipment such as
fluorescent lighting fixtures, radios, television sets, .e to. However, the
intensity of this hoise is of such a low value that it will not be heard at a ! a
distance of more than 100 to 150 feet. Moreover, because of its steady char- ;his
!' acteristic it is not a distracting type of noise but blends with other back-
; ground noises.
y The Pacific Gas and Electric Company agrees that in the event of any complaints llo
from the neighborhood, the Company accepts full responsibility and will do
j everything in its power to alleviate them.
f ,
f, { Yours very truly, RESOL W.
